Ok, I have a dumb question. Why spend the money on tubular A-arms? Don't get me wrong I think they look nice and you guys know I'm all in to things looking nice. I just don't see that as the motivation here.

What advantage do you see using bags and tubular A-arms over stock A-arms with bags and dropped spindles? Are you planning on combining tubular A-arms and dropped spindles?

Yes. The tubular arms would help w/backspace issues & scraping, they should be stronger vs. the stamped stocker, should allow the trucks to sit lower (won't require the cups to keep things from rubbing), and do all the above while looking better.

I don't have anything against stock arms.... I just think some tubular ones would look good & if designed properly can correct for geometric changes resulting from lowering.

Building a small, high rpm engine with the perfect bore, stroke and rod ratio is very impressive.

What SCOTI said...

I'm looking to address inner wheel lip clearance issues as well. The stamped arm has a lot of "flash" around the ball joint for obvious structural reasons. The tubular arms don't/won't have that, and so I'll get more clearance there. Also, at least the Performance Online units (which are also currently vaporware) are supposed to have a 2° KPI adjustment in them, bringing the installed caster to 2° (from stock 4°). This should help significantly with tracking and neutral steer.

Update . . ....

We went to the GoodGuys show today & after we got the Rambler wagon in AirRides display, my buddy (an AirRide dealer), inquired about the a-arms.

Insert drumroll now....

I have a set of these arms supposedly being shipped to the shop first thing next week. They're coming w/o powder-coating so they pulled them for shipping. We'll see . . .....

*sorry.... no pricing. I didn't ask.

Keep us posted. Powdercoating? We don't need no stinkin' powdercoating. (They told me 2 weeks for that part... I can hit them with Krylon in 10 minutes )

Ok, so I am looking at the new issue of "Classic Trucks" and there is a a "two page" section from CPP(Classic Performance Parts) and they have a set of Tubular Upper Control Arms with Ball Joints for $249...

Is this not what everyone is looking for?

I looked on the website and they don't ahve them listed, probably because they are "NEW"....but, let me know if this is what everyone is looking for, please

Also..... those uppers correct the alignment issue by making them longer so you don't use as many shims. I don't know about everyone else, but the last thing I want is my track width increased.

IMO, the better fix is shortening the lowers which I already have done on my stock style arms. I want those wheels tucked so that I can actually turn & be low @ the same time.

OK, I broke down and pulled the trigger. They should be here in a few days. They did mention that the upper bag mount needs to move (forward??) slightly to accommodate the changed lower mount location. Probably as a result of the change in caster to 2° (from 4°).

I went to the shop today & found out AirRide called & inquired about some e-mails going back & forth between me & Darren @ AirRide.

Darren e-mailed me since I was one of the first group waiting list. After getting the info @ the show, we expected them within 7-10 days.

Nothing. Nada. Zilch. So I get an e-mail from Darren asking if I wanted to order my set as they just got the first batch back from the powder-coaters. I told him about the deal on the phone w/Tony & that some naked ones were supposed to be in transit to us here in Texas. Darren talks w/Tony . . .... & . . .... nothings been shipped.

Here we go again. All of the first batch (25 sets) are sold/spoken for, & none were left bare. So they say they'll pull a set before coating on the next batch & gave an ETA of 2 more weeks. I told my buddy that if the pricing is the same to just give me some black powder-coated ones.

What's another couple of weeks on a 10+ year project . Darren also mentioned about the top plate as well. He spoke w/my friend @ Stoked Out Specialties today about the mix-up & then PM'd me that mine would definitely get pulled 1st from the next batch.

Unfortunately, I've come to learn that "2 more weeks" really means "later," and the definition of "later" is "ultimately never." I guess that my be here in a few days is from Darren as well. We'll see.

Sigh. How hard is it to make honest and reasonable commitments, and then follow through on them? <-- rhetorical question

Actually, they only have the fronts.... rears are "coming soon". They also look exactly like the performance-onlines suspension pieces which lengthen the upper arm to 'correct alignment issues' from lowering your truck (they also advertise improved caster).

I don't know about a ton of them. They did have a lot of interest & many have been waiting for some time to get a set. I was supposed to get a set from the first production batch & they went fast. I had to wait for the next production run.

I feel AirRides arms are nicely built. I'm going to weigh & compare some stock arms to theirs just to see if I'm reducing or...... adding weight. I haven't seen any other brands so I can't form an opinion on them.
