Had some detail work to do on the area that still wasn't prepped, then it was bolt it together!
You know how that works... It took hours to do it right. So anyway, got it bolted into place and the tail gate installed too. I reused all the original bolts, they were still that nice. |

What happened to the cowl/dash/windshield frame areas? It's there in the earlier pics but gone in the later pictures.

Change of Plans
Turns out I'm keeping this one and building it up for myself.
It'll get a 2" spring lift, zero rates, new shocks, 3/4 ton axels and a new set of 33x12.5 SSR's on some sweet old school slotted mags. I think I'll keep it a 4spd, unless botboy finaly sends me the 700r he owes me. Like that's gonna happen. (it did, he sent it, all's well) Stay tuned, firewall and windshield frame are next. Wow, awesome! I have a 71 Jimmy that has a rust free inner tub outside of some rusty rockers, and an awsome outer sheet metal 72 blazer (doors back).............. the 72 blazer has a tub that you could almost step through it's so rusted!
I have been looking at plasma cutters and MIG welders thinking this is something I need to get into! I am a seasoned mechanic but no body work experience and only experience is with gas torches which is too crude for what I am planning......doing what you are doing. The Blazer rear quarters are perfect and my Jimmy has been rear ended and filled with cracking out bondo. Any tips? Am I crazy? Body shops have quoted me insane prices for doing this................... Thanks for a reality check in advance...Jim |

Hey vtblazer, nice stuff! This is exactly what I want to do to my 71 Jimmy. I discovered a ton of bondo in both rear bedside panels down below the tail lights and I happen to have 72 parts blazer with perfect bed panels. It's the old If I could make one rig out of the strengths of the two.....anyway how much cutting do you have to do to remove the bed panel? Thanks for your advice
