Mineral spirits is what I usually use I drive about 90,000 klicks a year so I get lots of tar. I usually have a gallon of mineral spirits around . It's good for removing tar, cleaning greasy grime off parts, cleaning greasy grime of hands, cleaning oil based paints ( the stuff I buy is usually labeld as " Paint Thinner" in hardware stores). Best of all, it's not flamable. Good luck to ya, whatever you use.

Gibbs will remove better than anything else and it actualy will "feed" your paint the elements that it needs to maintain a luster, rather than deplete the paint like other things like paint thinner, diesel or mineral spirits.
You guys are realy missing out ona great product if you haven't tried it.

Gas will get it off but be careful not to smoke around it!!!!

Gas is bad for paint. Use the Gibbs and Gibbasize that paint. GM has tried it succesfully as an undercoat for the Humvees . Paint right over it and what a rust proofer!!!! You have got to give it a try. PM me if you are in doubt and I can convince even the greatest doubts.. This stuff is remarkable!!!!

Same here. I used to drive through it daily in const work and gas was the only way to do it quickly. Bad idea if you smoke.

When I worked at a rock quarry that also made concrete and Asphalt, we would use diesel to clean the tar/asphalt from trucks and equipment...

Where do you buy this stuff at, I will try and remember the name so if I ever have a use for it I will try it, or maybe just buy some so I have it around.

Google up roadsters.com and there is a link on there index page. The page is quite full so you have to look for it. If you are interested PM me. It is all that it claims to be. It has been used on body panels and painted right over for the Military Humvee. Best pen oil I have ever used and an excellent water reppelent and rust proofer. Do PM if you are interested.

I know this is too late but if it happens again, complain to the contractor who sprayed the asphalt on the roadway. My past experience is they will clean it off for you and they use a orange peel type solvent that doesn't damage paint.
