Re: '56 Chevy Project Thread
Pedals and steering column (both from the clip donor car) fit back in nicely. Smoothed dash seems to be supporting them just fine.

Re: '56 Chevy Project Thread
That looks really good. Did you have to cut out your dash to install tjat, or did it go right over ?

Re: '56 Chevy Project Thread
Thanks!
We cut out "portions" of the dash: from just outside the V of the gauge cluster to the right of the heater control, leaving a lip on top. We left the glove box base in there, as it didn't interfere with anything and provided something sturdy to weld to... The left side was butt welded to the existing dash, and all three other sides were welded over the existing.

Re: '56 Chevy Project Thread
Just bought a tranny: 1986 model 700R4, per my tranny guy's recommendation. Cost me $100, and now it's off to be rebuilt...
Apparently the 1986 model is unique (and better for performance applications) for some reason.

Re: '56 Chevy Project Thread
Engine fit! Headers (Hedman) fit great with the camaro clip and BBC. Just need to drill one more hole for the tranny mount, and it will be completely self-supporting...

454 BBC. Out of a 1977 pickup. 700r4 out of an 1986 suburban. We were told the 1986 model 700r4's were better for higher hp applications.

Shameless photo storage. And a reminder to use this to find out where the heck my brackets go...

Re: '56 Chevy Project Thread
Bought a rear end this weekend:
1980 Trans Am rear end, disc brakes, posi, 3.08 gears for $250. Pretty happy with it, now it's just time for a freshening...

Re: '56 Chevy Project Thread
I have a question about the pedals. Is that a firewall mounted brake/booster setup? If so, did you have to remove the brackets that are attached from the dash to the firewall?

Re: '56 Chevy Project Thread
IT is a firewall mounted brake assembly (stolen from the 1979 Trans Am that donated the clip). I don't recall having to remove any brackets, but it has literally been 10 years since those pedals were initially mounted so I can't say positively. I'll try to post a pic of the pedals next time i have them out...

1. underneath the dash so I can see what is going on under there with the bracket I am concerned with. 2. the front of your frame so I can see how you grafted the original front frame back on. Thanks a ton and keep up the great work.

Re: '56 Chevy Project Thread
ah, yeah under your dash it looks like the original support that went from the dash to the firewall has been removed and the pedal brackets replace that support. thanks for the pic! that helps me out a ton.
also, thanks for the pics for the front. That will help a lot.

Re: '56 Chevy Project Thread
1980 T/A rear end installed! It still needs freshened up, but it fit as well as hoped.
Now to finish off that pesky motor install the rest of the weekend...
