Well, I seen a good 'ol 350 throw a rod at IDLE, what does that have to say about ford VS. chevy? I thought it was pretty funny, but the owner didnt, that was his work truck.
(engine failures happen to us all, and I think brand loyalty is stupid, they all crank out garbage) |

well im not sure which one ill do yet but if i do go with the seafoam do i pour it in the same way as i would with the water??? and i guess if my truck runs good now and i get all the carbon out itll run even better, and if it put it in the oil do i put it in inplace of a quart??? and with the feul do i pour it as i would any other feul treatment??? Thanks for all the comments and advice guys, id be lost with my truck if hadnt found this board.

I've never used seafoam, however, if it is a liquid, you can hydro lock... read the instructions. I'd imagine it says something like rev engine to 2000 RPM and slowly pour into carb.

We used to take a pint of tranny flluid and pour it down the throat of the carb, with the idle being held open to keep them otor running. Then as the container was just about used up, let it drown the motor out and kill it. Let this soak for a short period, so that it will loosen any carbon residue and then start the engine and drive it until ths moke clears out of the engine. It appeared to make a difference in the motor's operation. We called it a "Hydraulic Valve Job".
I have also seen brake fluid dumped down the carb in the same fashion |

So.....Hmm....
If you did use seafoam, water or whatver else to clean up the valves, how would you know whether or not it worked? Would crap shoot out the exhaust? I assume it would right? |

Depends on what type of muffler you are running. If it is a straight through, then MAYBE you would see something, BUT I doubt it. What might give you a clue is the performance is smoother, the acceleration is better, the miss that you had is gone, or heck even all of the cylinders are actually firing now.

Don't bother with water. Strong potential to hydrolock! Water doesn't compress, if you're going to try this method, use a spray bottle and mist the water into the carb, I wouldn't POUR it in, even slowly.

You are not supposed to use it on 120k mile or more engines. IT can remove oil deposits from your gaskets that are holding them together, causing leaks ![]() Believe me - when you kill the engine, then fire it up 10 minutes later, you'll know it worked, it smokes like holy hell from the carbon it's burning off. I saw someone take a bore scope inside a cylinder before and after using Seafoam - things went from brass colored to shiny, shiny silver. The stuff is no BS. People have been using it for decades with great results.

As stated earlier, I have been pouring water down the carbs of my vehicles for over 20 years, using a cup at at a time at fast idle and have never hyrolocked anything, personnely I don't believe you could lock it. It would take a lot of water to completely fill a combustion chamber on most any engine while it is running. It shoots a ton of crap out of the exhaust and you will notice a difference in how it runs, it will be better.
I have a 1934 John Deere D that has a factory water injector on it that is attached to the block and draws water directly from the cooling system. When a farmer hit a rough spot while plowing he could turn a handle that opened the valve and WATER is injected into the 2 combustion chambers, and puff, no hydrolock, just more power! Jeff

Water going down into a cylinder will create a steam cloud and that is where the extra power comes from. This steam will loosen hardened carbon depsosits in the upper cylinder regions. This was used in the WWII era, by the Germans to get their airplanes to move faster, with more payload. Pouring water down the intake in a controlled volume will not hydralock the piston on a running engine. Some of the newer modern engines, with close tolerances, could get some damage, but only if the water is poured in fast.

I used to use the GM product called "Top Engine Cleaner" or some such name that you poured down the carb at high idle and gassed out all the neighbors with huge plumes of white smoke. They stopped selling the stuff in California a couple years ago,but I know a GMC parts guy that stockpiled some. That stuff REALLY works to clean out carbon. Seafoam rules. I run a can of it through my older vehicles each spring. If you have one that has never seen the treatment, some (including myself) could feel the difference in power. Also will be better on gas. Start your truck & on high idle, slowly trickle about half of the can through the carb. It will stumble a little & bog but keep pouring & keep it running. When you have half of the can in & it running, dump the rest down the carb until it kills the motor. Let it set @ 20 minutes. Start it up & go for a ride. You will draw a lot of attention because your truck will smoke up a storm. Drive it until you cant see the smoke & you will be sold... Also a splash in your mower in the fall is better than any stabil because it doesnt gum anything up. I use it year round in small engines. Put it in a spray bottle & use it like wd-40.... Geez I sound like a salesman for the stuff, Im done...
