Re: just bought a 72 Burb
I can't quite tell from the pics, but if you have the custom deluxe cloth upholstery (the cloth pattern looks like rows of little flowers) the only supplier I have found is CARS, Inc. (www.carsinc.com). I don't believe their website lists the cloth, but if you call or e-mail them they should be able to help. About 3 years ago they made an original style front seat cover for my '72 for around $325, and I was extremely pleased with it.

Re: just bought a 72 Burb
What grebus1 said!!! The upholstery on your back seat is the custom cloth upholstery. If you want to keep that, then you will have to have CARS make them for you if the cloth is still available... If you just want to have parchment seat covers in your 'burb, you can always replace both front & rear covers with new std. covers... The burb seat covers will have the ribbed pattern from top to bottom and should fit right over the p/u seat you have in there...
Do your doorpanels have the woodgrain inserts on them? As far as your rear A/C goes, the original lines were attached to "barbed" fittings with hoseclamps. The 72 Burbs(ONLY) were "Teeed" off a stock pickup A/C hose. The pickup hose if needed is available thru the many board vendors we have and the rear hose is available thru NAPA, as are the clamps, ect... I don't remember the exact legnth needed for the rear, but you could buy a cheap garden hose & use that to measure how much you need by routing the hose where it needs to go & marking it. It crosses from the pass side under the middle of the truck, goes thru the rear inner rocker on the drivers side(where the 4th door would have been) and up through the "blank" door, then along the inside of the drivers 1/4 panel and up the rear corner of the body. >>>>>>MAKE SURE THE DRAIN HOSES ARE NOT CLOGGED OR KINKED<<<<<<< Although I haven't seen him on here in a while, board member "Smokekiki" replaced all the A/C lines in his burb a while back... He could give you some additional pointers if needed... Sweet burb... L8R - Joe

Re: just bought a 72 Burb
Thanks so much!!! great info!!!!!!!
Question: does parchment seat covers mean all vinyl or any cloth in them. or should I use the houndstooth, they look nice, but would it be correct for Suburban 1972??????? |

Re: just bought a 72 Burb
I am using the parchment seat covers. They have the pleated ribs with the cheyenne scroll insersts going into my burb(no cloth). Houndstooth would look nice and feel good but not correct for burb. I have always assumed that the cloth insert (houndstooth) version would not hold up as well either.

Re: just bought a 72 Burb
Exactly... The cloth inserts look nice but for durability & price, the all vinyl ones are the way to go if your staying stock or close to it... Parchment is the "color" they called your uphosltery... Just a fancy way to say white...

Re: just bought a 72 Burb
Hey does this Suburban look familiar? Sold it back in 1998 I reget it. I pulled the front seat out of a big block truck that was in a junk yard in Northern California. It had swivel bucket seats up front and paisley curtains in the rear cargo area. I bought your Suburban from the original owner in Cary, North Carolina in 1994. He purchased it new in New Mexico and used it to drive back and forth to Vriginia to visit family. He moved to NC before I bought it. It's funny because I sold it to a guy in Virginia. If you want to know more about it PM me.

Re: just bought a 72 Burb
PCMCOBRA/MVPCO: Nice meeting both of you Sat night, maybe next time we'll try to meet up their earlier. Jeff, all I can say about your Burb is ..... Wow!!! That's one sweet original Burb. (whenever you're ready to let it go, just let me know. ). John , your white truck brings back some cool memories of high schoo (minus the 20's of course). Can't wait to do it again. Hopefully some more of PCola's finest will join us.

Re: just bought a 72 Burb
You guys make me sick!!!!
You get to cruise in February, while I'm stuck in -17 C, and it's too darn cold to even work on my beast. I'll be lucky to get to work on mine before mid April. I'm just jealous that my 'burb is all locked up in the cold garage, while you get to drive your trucks; ...for you |
