Re: started the chop today

Dang that looks sweet. I kinda wanted to do that with my 77 I'm fixing up, but I couldn't go more than maybe 2 or 3 inches since I'm 6'4", and I have no idea how to, lol.

Re: started the chop today

looking good - you work fast. Why did you have to raise the tranny tunnel though? Also what did you do different with the seat. My seat is stock and never really looked into lowering it, but hitting my head sucks!

I have been trying to get hold of you but coud'nt remember your user name ?
I zed the frame 3'' in front so it would be lowwer but have more ride with out dragging the crossmember [but probly still will anyhow]and redid my motor and tranny mounts so i had to re do my tunnle too.
I couldnt figure out what to do on my seat untill it hit me to just use what i had and mount it stait to the floor ,all i have left is to build a new bottom seat pan now.and off to the appostery shop!!!!
Can you send me a pic of your seat in your truck ?and what did you do about your head linner?

mine mounts right to the floor as well. I'll get you a pic as soon as I can, only problem is the truck is at the paint shop and the seat is at the upholstery shop! I have not tackled the head liner yet... but I will say it will be nothing like the stock one. I'll just make it a flat piece that doesnt wrap around like the stock one.

That looks bad ass. I've been wanting to chop my 70 about 5 or 6 inches but don't have anywhere to do it yet. Are you keeping the stock seat but mounted straight to the floor?

Love the chop. Have you ever thought of doing a body section? Could you imagine having that massive chop and a sectioned body? When you had your first truck in high school, did you do the chop yourself?

If I had the skills, time, and truck to do it on...I'd chop the top on one of these...but instead of just cutting out 4" (or whatever), I'd move the rear window down to be flush with the top of the bed rails...same for the side glass/doors. I think that might look cool. Anyone want to photoshop one of those for me?
Something like this? It's not the greatest angle to start from, do you have a better shot?

Yes, that is really cool! Now you are putting bad thoughts in my head.

Could you do the same to this truck/picture?

Yes stock seat but i took the foam outof the bottom and making a seat pan so the foam will set right on the floor [as low as possible, kinda like a motor cycle seat pan]and have it all recoverd.

A sectioned chop will look really wide ?[have not seen one yet]
Yes i did the chop but i couldnt weld very good back then and i had my dad at the local vocational school do it for me[they thought i was nuts till they seen the finished truck].Its funny ,it took them a whole week to do it and i done this one by myself in a day!!but i do a lot of sheet metal work and i love chopping tops ,so i guess i shoudnt brag too much.
