Re: Going to the Dyno at 6:00 (sure I'll be dissapointed)
Yeah, just givin' you an "ass kickin'" option
Do you have a clutch fan or electric fans? That's good for a couple/few hp as well.

ahh, better not,
Redneck, I am running two 1200cfm Spal electric fans. I thought about draining the oil and running Vitaman water during the dyno runs, what do ya think?

Re: Going to the Dyno at 6:00 (sure I'll be dissapointed)
O.k. that will work, would you like a tech story on that sir?????? huh huh huh huh
dangit, I spoke to HVH and I gave them the new parts and my engine specs and they said I should be able to hit 250 at the rear wheels and 300 torque!. Now that's looking a whole lot better.

hey with that truck, it wouldnt matter if it had the original motor in it makeing around what, 50 hp..lol it looks great.... so could you throw a set of 15 inch tires and wheels on it for the next dyno, or is that cheating...

Re: Going to the Dyno at 6:00 (sure I'll be dissapointed)
Torque converter can eat up a lot of hp. Me ventura made 438 at the wheels with 3500 stall converter. I swaped to a 9" redneck 4300 stall converter. On the dyno converter stalled at 5200 rpm and only 381 hp at the wheels no other changes. I send a converter back.

Re: Going to the Dyno at 6:00 (sure I'll be dissapointed)
Just a nickel's worth here, but I'd ditch the 305. The restrictive 3 3/4" bore is going hinder the normal gain of what the heads would be worth on another engine. Most aftermarket heads come with a minumum of a 2.02/1.60 valves, and the 305's small bore severely shrouds even 1.94/1.50 valves. 300RWHP is relatively easy to get on a 350 Chevy, even with factory heads. Just something to think about.

Re: Going to the Dyno at 6:00 (sure I'll be dissapointed)
yeah, I know but it runs really good and I hat to pull the engine, I sent my budget on this top end so if I kill it, I guess I'll pull it all out, sell it and buy a damn LS- engine.
I am having fun though. I went home and adjusted the gas pedal so that I could get wot, DAMN did it make a difference, actually as the dyno shows, adjusting my pedal made 30rwhp and 30rwtq! That is a huge difference, plus my kickdown work for the first time in 4 years! lol

By the way, here are some pics, anyone who has been to the dyno knows how scary it really is. 3rd gear 127mph!

Re: Going to the Dyno at 6:00 (sure I'll be dissapointed)
Nitrous is hp in a bottle and does not hurt driveablity at all. Flip the switch when you want a hit and DD the rest of the time. HP costs money anyway you slice it so $$$ up or enjoy the 305 as is, again though NO2 is hp in a bottle ($3-500) and that is it. Or $1500 for a 144ci street blower??

Re: Going to the Dyno at 6:00 (sure I'll be dissapointed)
Thanks for updating us. There's a whole lot of bench racing that gets done and it's nice to see some real-world data hit the 'net, with the data coming from a real-world drivetrain.
Q. What does it matter that you have a 12-bolt or a 10-bolt? Is there so much more substance to a 12-bolt that it hampers performance? Didn't GM rely on them extensively for their performance vehicles in the mid-late 60's and later? If the rear end is a loser item, wouldn't they have stayed with the 10-bolt? And, a 700R4 is a detriment? I know they are desired for their short first gear and their overdrive. I know that a 350TH is preferred over a 400TH for its' shorter first gear, too. Then, there's the PG (aluminum case) converted for drag usage. What's a poor man to do? Convertors are another topic, right? I liked my switch-pitch convertor in my '67 Skylark and it makes me want another one. Kenne-Bell (used to) handles them.

Re: Going to the Dyno at 6:00 (sure I'll be dissapointed)
The 12 bolt takes more horsepower to spin but it is very very strong. That is why GM used it.
As for the trans, it is the same way. It takes a bit more horsepower to spin than a 350 turbo. Rumor is the 350 takes the least amount of power to spin. I am not sure.

I think for what you say you mainly use the truck for the 700R is helping more than hurting! Just curious.... What gear are you running?

Re: Going to the Dyno at 6:00 (sure I'll be dissapointed)
yeah, the 700R4 is stayin no doubt, it is a big help on fuel, I have a the stock gears that are in a '65 C-10 6 cyl, 3-speed truck? I think that is a 4:10 or 4:11, does that sound right?

Powerglides use less hp than a th350. Of course they also only have two speeds.
