Re: The Drop Thread
I'm going from memory here, so bear with me:
We did probably six or seven trucks in the 70's and 80's timeframe. All were done by cutting the coils on the front and relocating the spring hangers on the frame rail in the rear. This first one was a 4" drop on the front (cut two coils) and a 6" drop on the rear (the rear was quite high to start with). Relocating the hangers constitutes 3" of that, and then I also removed a couple leafs if I remember right. Wheels are the factory aluminum, 15x7 (don't remember the offset) and the tires were an LR60-15 Goodyear. Similar situation on this one but I didn't go down as far (...I got more conservative as I got older...). Cut one coil for a 2" ish drop, still went the full 3" on the rear. Wheels are a 15x8 truck rally (zero offset) with P235/75R15's all the way around. Here's how the spring hanger relocation works. You cut the rivets holding the hangers and replace them with 3/8 grade 8 bolts (removing the pickup box helps with this part). Moving the bottom holes of the bracket into the top hole of the frame nets the 3" drop. Total investment at that time was around $1.38 for the bolts and $25 for a front end alignment. This particular truck has been a daily driver for 22 years with no issues.

Re: The Drop Thread
ok i know you guys kind of answered this but im tryin to save myself a lot of time and money by askin to be completely sure. i counted 9 leafs on each side of my 77 i am thinkin of doin a 4/6 drop and one of my concerns is the C-notch. a few of you said that if you had 5 leafs youd be good but i wanna know if you have ever had any rubbing at all? and since ive got 9 leafs will i be ok? will i have to remove a few to get the desired drop? if so am i goin to remove the shorter ones that arent as long as the others? As far as drop shocks are nitro 2s good? or should i go with street performance? i am trying to get the 4/6 belltech drop kit from stylin trucks so i dont have to piece everything together. and the last thing is what about long tube headers? i have hookers what kind of clearance am i lookin at? i dont wanna go that low if my headers are goin to rub to the point where they almost close. i am pretty good at avoiding pot holes but i do have a driveway where i park it and i park in a parking garage at school.

Re: The Drop Thread
it has 1 full coil cut off on the front for a 2" drop and beltech shackles on the back for a 3" drop, stock replacment shocks all the way around. it has 15x8 rallies with 275/60r15 all the way around. Live animals do you have any issues with tire rub on your charcoal truck?

Re: The Drop Thread
orange with that many leafs the rear might lower 7", I would go with a c-notch so there wouldn't be any second guessing

Re: The Drop Thread
i have been trying to find a cheap way to get another 2" up front and 3" in the back of drop from my truck any suggestions? i have a belltech 3/4 kit now but i still have an ugly gap that i want to get rid of can i just cut a coil in the front and remove some leafs out back? i removed the overload lead but im still let with 5 leafs. how hard is it to move a drop shackle up? just unbolting it and moving it up? i assume i would have to make new holes right? Thanks guys.
