title problem
I boutght a truck from a guy dirt cheap. The title wasnt ever sighned over to him properly. Then he sold it to me and now i got a truck that is in excelant condition and want to start driving it but cant get it titled. Im in NC the title holder and title are from oregon. And the guy who sold it to me is in texas and ive tried for the last 4 years to get a hold of them. i tried to send the title and the money already and got a letter back saying i need a form to remove the guys name that i bought it from, basicly as if the titled guy sold it to me with no middle man. But the persons name who sighned it in error(the guy i bought it from) has toi be the one to sighn it. Since i cant get a hold of him this dosent help either. ANY SUGGESTIONS? can i get a nother truck with a good title for cheap and swith some stuff?

Re: title problem
about a year ago I dealt with a guy in AL and got all the paperwork to get a title to a 70 Camaro that I couldn't get a title to.
Here's the link to the original thread I posted about it. I wish I still had his phone number, because I see that his website isn't working anymore. Here's one company that I've heard about: MustangTitles but I don't have any first-hand experience with them. If you know someone who lives in GA or AL, those states will issue a registration on a bill of sale only. And, they are non-title states for older vehicles. You can take the registration with a bill of sale to the DMV (at least I know it works in VA) and trade it for a title.

Re: title problem
sounds like you are entering a beaurocratic catch22.....
look up broadway title co.- I think they are on the net too.- maybe you can use them. Is there away to file for a lost title in your state? if all else fails, you could get a titled cab, and "switch" them out |

Re: title problem
find a local used car dealer, they should be able to accept the title and re-assign it to you....you might also be able to do it through a wrecker company. they could call it an abandoned vehicle with storage fees......
it may cost you, but better than the alternative i'm no expert, just my ideas

Re: title problem
You can also do what is called a bonded tilt... When i was in ft.bragg i bought a truck from GA and had to do this. There is a lot of this person that person in your post, I would also try and find and find the seller that on the title from OR and see if they would do a lost title sign it and send it to you.

Re: title problem
My truck has a vin# issued by the state. The PO put the truck together from parts...(I continued the tradition) I wonder if you could get a salvage title; just say you put the truck together from parts. Something along those lines as an idea anyway.......good luck w/ your dilema.

Re: title problem
You might try a mechanic's lien. I don't know the details on how this works, but...
I just had a Volvo hauled away by a towing company, the Volvo was in my back yard for a decade (literally) and somehow I lost the title. They said no problem, they work with an auto title company, they do this all the time: they file a lien and and have ownership papers in three days. |

Re: title problem
If you can contact the original owner on the title, since your middleman never registered it they can get a duplicate title and sign it over to you. you might want to offer to pay them for thier time.
If this dosent work "LOSE THE TITLE" take the truck to the dmv for a vin inspection. They will run it through the NCIC and if it hasent been registered in the past 10 years (some states shorter) it wont come up . at that point go to an insurance company and buy a bond, I use The Mahoney Group, usually under a hundred bucks. It is based on the current value of the truck, (hint - its worth $5000 or less) And this should allow you to register the vehical. The bond is simply an insurance policy and will not need to be renued and dissappers upon the sale of the vehical to the next owner. Any other Q's Email me

Re: title problem
Be careful getting the title through AL. My dad did 2, one about a year ago and another about 4. This past summer the DMV officer came to his house and had a talk with him. He did not get in any trouble, but the officer said NC was trying to put a stop to these titles.

Re: title problem
some states, such as ok, require titles to be notarized
so you could run into problems there. I recently had problem with the title for my '80 it had been signed in the wrong place, and the notary missed it. first dmv/tag agent told me I had to track down the original owner (i got the truck from someone else so mission impossible) and the notary(also MIA), they had to correct the title and fill out some forms, yada, yada, yada... went to different dmv/tag agent and played dumb, no problem, in and out in 5 minutes.... moral of the story: play dumb and if you don't like what you hear, try another place

Re: title problem
I agree, just sign the frick'n thing yourself...or have your ol' lady do it....
In California I've noticed in the last 10-15 years the DMV is not as strict as it once was, you can get away with stuff easier (if you can belive that..."Commifornia")
