MrPhoto--Whenever the fenders and steps are mounted, you will never know the difference.

Looks like a good solid box. Good score!!

Re: TwoFiftyShifter's '64 GMC budget project

Made some progress yesterday, got all of the old rotted fuel line replaced, and got the truck running off of the gas tank, and now moving under its own power. I changed to a new fuel filter, figured if I got a clear one I could see the gas coming through, and that would tell me if the tank was dirty inside.... gas was looking good. No brakes or anything, but is was cool moving her down the driveway and back.

Check this out, the grille is painted white, but it's chipped in a couple spots, the chipped paint doesn't have rust or anything... its CHROME! What kind of an idiot paint a chrome grille white? I guess I'm gonna try some laquer thinner with a rag and see what happens, any advice for getting paint off of chrome without damaging the chrome?

Re: TwoFiftyShifter's '64 GMC budget project

good find on the grille, I wouldn't think laquer thinner would hurt the chrome, give it a shot. if it is cheap paint it should come off rather easy....

BTW, you said clear fuel filter?
is it plastic or glass?
the reason I ask, the glass ones are pretty unsafe, they can break and cause a fire.

If I'm chasing a deal, I always try to wear my stained up, old work clothes and drive an old beater...

If I would have said I'm buying a 60-66 stepside box you guys wouldn't have commented on anything.... nor would you be able to tell the difference (save for the fender bolt holes)

Re: TwoFiftyShifter's '64 GMC budget project

Picked up a halfway decent hood today for $60. It needs work, mostly in the corners there is some rot, but it's a big improvement to mine, here are some pics:

Old hood:

New hood:

There might be a way to patch the corners up a little, I might be able to learn how to use the MiG welder in the process. The hood doesn't have dents like the old one does either. Cool stuff.
Now I need a grille support. Got a line on one that's in good condition, what are those worth?

Re: TwoFiftyShifter's '64 GMC budget project

Ha! Yeah, the GZC will come together in time. I'm actually thinking about making it a Chevy on the outside... I already have a Chevy hood and have a tailgate that says chevrolet.... Thinking about a chevy grille too. One thing is for sure, I'm keeping that GMC dash, it looks killer IMO.

Also, I tried rubbing lacquer thinner on the grille, to take the paint off of the chrome, using a rag and it didn't take the paint off. Any suggestions as to what I should use to scrub with?

Paint stripper won't hurt the chrome.
