Re: Board members mini meet
Leon,
Let me know when you have one of those Iowa mini-meets again. I wouldn't mind showing up and meeting some of the other people on this sight. The '72 burb is my daily and if the weather is nice I will bring the red/white short box. Thanks |

Re: Board members mini meet
All that build up, and it turns out to be a pretty uneventfull trip.
I was comming back from the greater Omaha area in the '92 GMC 1500 I used to have at work with 2-2000lb batteries on a car trailer and lost the ground for the trailer brakes. That was a fun ride back. Not as much weight as that dumptruck, but still a blast. 68C10---I got the perfect idea for that dump truck. Turn it into a flatbed carrier. You know those roll-off container trucks that have a big "J" hook that hooks to to the container behind the cab? A forklift dealer in town converted one of those to a flatbed. They lay the whole bed on the ground, drive the forklift onto it and then lift the front and retract/drive back underneath the the bed. No need to try to get it up some ramps.

Re: Board members mini meet
Hey Mike, I didn't start my post with "I am the smartest man in the world."
This trip could easily qualify as a "What not to do" trip. I spent a few minutes on the truck today and will start a thread later. Leon - let me know when you have a meet. I would love to head out that way again, this time in a more comfortable vehicle. If you plan it around something else that's happening that would be a bonus too. Like a swap meet, races, a quilt show for Todd, or a burnout contest in Newton.

Re: Board members mini meet
HEY!!!! what's with the quilting buzz? I prefer crocheting instead. it keeps me busy while I am driving. LOL
I am actually thinking of taking my bike to the DM area this summer. any ride-a-longs? but then again if there is a swap meet we could take Shawn's dually. then on the way back we could get that yellow C50 tandem axle dumper we saw. JK edit; on Sept. 20 there is a drag day at the airport in Estherville, according to Green Machine. I would like to take my truck to that. Last edited by 68C15; 02-07-2009 at 07:47 AM. |

Re: Board members mini meet
Nothing ever wrong with pulling up an way back post. That's why they all remain. In the parts forums, that's another story for obvious reasons. Check the date when searching up parts. I especially enjoy seeing "people" threads pilled up from the past. Many here we don't see anymore and it's great to be reminded of them. Plus.... there was a time when gatherings of members was fairly often around the country. It seems things have changed. Maybe it's the newness of forums wearing off. In the early days it was great to find out about others with the same interest in trucks in your region you would otherwise never known about. Maybe we take that for granted or maybe so many are into these trucks now it's not such a novelty to know others share the interest. I don't know, but here in Maryland we had some gatherings. I had a few here. I don't think any of those guys are even on here anymore.

Yep, Chad is a nice guy and has an all original looking '70 driver. He hasn't been on the board since 2016. I have his number, I will have to give him a call....

Something like that might be doable. I will have to check the calendar. We have a family get together around the 4th every year but it is just a one day thing.

Leon,
Dang it! I totally forgot you were in Montezuma, IA. I just got back yesterday from three days in Marshalltown. Next time I am heading up that way I will have to reach out in advance and see what you have going on.

Re: Board members mini meet
Pretty cool, man! We could probably get at least 20 guys in North Texas. Maybe I should try to set it up. We have a Buc-ee's north of Fort Worth near Texas Motor Speedway that would be perfect. No restaurant, but they do make deli and BBQ sandwiches. And I would shoot for springtime!
