Re: What do you think this ran
The 3.08s are probably helping you launch better since you have the peg leg. I would guess that the 3.73 would make traction hard to come by. Although if you get a good launch then you could cut a couple tenths off I imagine.

Re: What do you think this ran
I will be picking up a complete rear
end out of a 68 truck with a posi unit and 3.73 gear. I am just going to swap axles if possible. Some say it is others say no go. But we will soon see. I will post new times when I get it all swapped. Thanks for all comments it is a work in progress. |

Re: What do you think this ran
Jason said the 305 has made him a great boat anchor. Heck I did'nt even know he had a boat!!! Thanks for the welcome Kevin. Jason just messing with you. You really have that truck getting up pretty good. I went by the old house today to see if the rear end was still there, it was! Give me a shout when you are ready. Later Sam

Re: What do you think this ran
I will talk to ya about picking up the
rearend tommorow. The 305 is actually in a 55 chevy bel-air right now being used as a mock up motor. Thats the only thing it is good for now after it came apart on me at about 5500 rpm. |

Re: What do you think this ran
yeah that just ain't right. 3000rpm at 70 with a 31" tire would have to have 3.95:1 gears. A 3.08 gear will be at 2300,, or you got one TRASHED convertor!!!

Re: What do you think this ran
yeah, but my speedo's off a little too. I got a warning driving 55 in a 55 zone, the cop didn't tell me how fast i was going but i slowed it down by 5 and havent had any more problems and i'm not entirely sure about the gears but i'll pull the cover off and check

Re: What do you think this ran
Note to anyone that is going to try and swap your 71-72 5 lug axles in a 67 to 70 six lug rear its a no go. I had some people saying you could, and if they did something can not be right. The 67 to 70 housing measures 57" while the 71 to 72 measures 58". Any way i ordered a mini spool and 3.73 gear to fix that peg leg.

Re: What do you think this ran
Hopefully by next weekend I can have it installed. I purchased the auburn mini spool from Jegs. I will probably have someone with a little bit more experience install since I am changing ring and pinion. Not sure if I will be able to get any pics unless I watch.

Re: What do you think this ran
For anyone who cares I went back to the drag strip. The only changes that were made were the 3.73 gears, mini spool, and 28x12.50 MT ET streets. It is slow compared to some of you guys but it is just a street truck !!!
Best 1/4 ET @ mph: 14.41@92.89 Best 1/8 ET @ mph: 9.19@76.16 Best 60 ft: 2.10 on MT ET Street Engine: 350 Transmission: TH-350 |
