Re: Differential covers
OK...been a month since I asked the question....
I got a hold of an artist buddy and said I want a crazy pumpkin cover for pumpkin on my truck. I think he thought I said "a crazy pumpkin for my pumpkin". He had it cast today at a place he uses. And this is what he came up with.... He actually made me a crazy pumpkin...check it out. It is not cleaned up yet...still has that white shell stuff on it. But man it is blowing my mind. I did not see it until the shell was broke and he called me over to see it.

Re: Differential covers
A bunch of years ago one of the 4X4 mags I use to read did an article on diff covers. They did not just talk about them, the beat the crap out of them. They hit them with a hammer. Then a sledge hammer. Then drove a bulldozer over them. The clear plastic one held up better than you would think. One of the best was a cast aluminum cover with a monster face on it, much like your angry pumpkin Timcos. The chrome cove was toast on the first test.

Re: Differential covers
if any of you guys get 4x4 garage magazine or pick it up at the local magazine stand, the winter 2008 copy has an article called The great diff cover shootout, and just like the name sudgests they test the impact strength of about a dozen dana 44 covers by shooting them with guns of assorted sizes and styles, its a neat article
btw that "pumpkin" cover is awesome! u should paint it orange haha

Re: Differential covers
OK...I got some more info.
He said the pumpkin will for about 450. The spider he made me...not as wild, looks great and a whole lot less labor and less Aluminum...will got for about 375. I will try and get a pic of the spider thing and post it. I am going to see him tomorrow. BTW...this cover is for a Chevy Duramax 3500 (so whatever diff cover that is)...but it could be easily adapted for any kind of diff cover. I will also get a pic of the more finished pumpkin. Tim

Re: Differential covers
wow that's awsome.. but for 450 it needs to be powdercoated.. IMHO having something original is awsome.. but not awsome enough for my wife to remove my testicles...
if i had a airbrush i probably could make that crazy pumpkin pretty dang cool lookin.. id preffer acrylics.. but man my imagination is going wild right now...
