Re: MY 1971 Jimmy Build Thread
If you need door opening measurements to double check what you have, I can give you those.
If you don't already have one, a factory service manual could help you out a lot right now for those mystery pieces. |

Sure, what do you have for door measurements? I'm also looking into getting a sandblaster (what would I need that for, right?). What kind do you have? |

Did some sandblasting on Halloween. Thought I'd throw up some pics.

Yeah, I did blast it with the gas tank still in. I tried to stay away from it as much as I could, but I must have hit it with the sand once cause it started leaking all over. Can't figure out why.... the tank looked just as good as the rest of the truck. I have the tank out now and I'll have to go back and blast the frame and floor that I couldn't get before while it was in. |

Re: MY 1971 Jimmy Build Thread
So here's what I accomplished last night/this morning. Got the old floor cut out , worked on the area behind the driver's B pillar, tacked the new firewall in, got the body support in and got the fit on the new floor pan pretty close. Oh, and I PORed the cowl area on the driver's side and some of the frame.

Update time!
Well, I finally got the drivers side floor pan about 99% finished and moved on to tearing up the floor in the back.
Why did I start this project again? |

Re: Update time!
Must have needed an excuse to get out in the garage awhile, like for months and years.

Re: MY 1971 Jimmy Build Thread
why did you start - good question...but imagine when you are done and you are enjoying it...[that what keeps me motivated].
these pictures will help remind you not to do it again when you are looking at the next rust bucket...I am in the same boat so looks like we are both fools - |

Update
Did a little more destruction this past weekend. Funny how quickly you can rip something apart versus how long it takes to put it back together. Hopefully this weekend I can get the rest of the cab off and get the engine/trans/transfer case out so I can finish up the sandblasting, paint it and run some brake lines and fuel lines. If I leave enough hints, maybe I'll get a nice 4" lift for it for my birthday.
Here's the bed of my truck....... in the bed of my truck. One of these days, I'll get it acid dipped so I can finish patching it. What have I done??!! Check out them original shocks! This bare steel proves why these trucks rusted so quickly and so bad. |

Wow - this could get interesting. I am hoping to do a body swap on my next one - we will see how that goes.

Re: MY 1971 Jimmy Build Thread
You're doing awesome. I never would have tackled a project like that, it's way past my skill level; you're making it look easy.
