Re: Square body on GearzTV
i think the truck turned out nice. granted, imo the truck wasnt a big piece when it came in like he made it to be, and of course there are things we all would have done differently... but all in all i think it turned out nice.
with all this talk about brakes you guys have me thinking i made a bad decision w/ keeping the stock set-up in the front and same stock size rear disc in the back!! man i hope i see some kind of braking improvement!?! jeez, i hope they dont look too small also... the main reason for doing them all new disc front and rear was for performance and looks

Re: Square body on GearzTV
Well, as I've had my truck since I was 16, I can assure you I use to drive the absolute hell out of it.
Never once did I ever feel the factory disc/rear drum were inadaquate. I understand that these brakes would offer additional braking support, but I can't justify the cost, especially when your driving just as fast and the truck weighs the same. $.02 If you want the upgrade, it's your money so I say do what you want, I'm not against that. But I get tired of the whole "mandatory" brake upgrade these shows feed you. The whole more HP = bigger brakes is BS. Speed is speed. They aren't going to magically stop a vehicle from 140mph to 40mph any better once your already at those high speeds. Now if I was to roadrace my truck..... but we're talking street vehicles. This is America, do what you want to your truck, just don't try and make me believe all the hype.

Re: Square body on GearzTV
My opinion of the braking issue is that GM put a bit of money into the brake system and it is up to the task it was designed for . Once the wheels and tires are changed to a larger diameter , then the brakes are no longer being used as originally intended . A 15 inch wheel and a comparable L78-15 or 235/75/15 wont require a brake upgrade . I have to say that I would like to have a better brake setup on my 78 since I installed the 20's but cant afford it . As to the show , the LMC ref., his happy attitude , etc , I admit I sometimes mute it but wouldnt stop watching the show . LMC is a sponsor so I am sure they get their name mentioned . As to the truck ,I would have changed a few things if it was mine but it isnt mine. I am sure the owner of Knucklebuster would change some things about my truck . As to the budget build , I wish I had a budget like that .

Re: Square body on GearzTV
The brake upgrades are definatly needed when you consider the extra rolling mass of bigger wheels and tires. It inertia, those bigger wheels and tires weigh more than the 15" cragers. Todays trends seem to favor the big wheels. The brakes are needed to help slow the extra mass. I think its a justifiable option. If some one thinks bigger brakes are for looks then they should go check out the brake section on PRO-TOURING.COM & LATERAL-G.NET,then come back and say they are for looks.
I know my 83' short stepper could use the bigger brakes. I pull a car trailer with it more than im running empty and they would help me a ton. If you drive your truck to work, and have to get on the expressway and deal with rush hour stop and go traffic, then you will appreciate the bigger brakes as they will not fade when they get hot as stock spec brakes will.As far as the rest of the build,I think the truck looks great. One thing I thought was cheesy, was the over head speakers built into the headliner..that was a big thing in the late 80's early 90's,thought that was kinda strange after he said the truck was built in the early 80's. I like the flattened black paint but the "sticker" on the door I bet will be pulled of after the owner gets the truck back. The bed wood I wonder how long that will last since he said its easy to remove..I was thinking that was a good way to rot out the bed if the owner never removed it to wash out the steel floor. Im not a fan of the wood over lay. As stated earlier I think it would have been cool i fit was a true wood floor. |

Re: Square body on GearzTV
i think it's o.k to "pick" on it.it's done by professional's and broadcast to the public.so,that should be expected.i think guy's on here out of respect are kinder to members truck's.i didn't care for the chrome 20's with all that rubber stuffed in there.they didn't tuck at all.i agree with frank,if that's a budget build.i wish i had a budget

Re: Square body on GearzTV
well since everyone feels so strongly on this subject i should say what i feel too. 1st of i wish i would of started off on a truck like that! I also think that he really wasnt on a budget. I have never said this before but im so tired of every other truck out there has a flat black paintjob. I think there are only a hand full of trucks that look good with a flat black paint job, for that he should of left it teal to show how just some bolt-ons change the look of the truck. I also have to agree those "euro" lighting looks super cheesey and i think that he should of either put 20s all the way around and lowered it another inch all the way around and work with just 18s.
As far a stacey goes, come on that guy has the job we all dream of! he gets paid to do all kinds of cool stuff to cars for FREE! I would be happy go lucky and goofy too! |

Re: Square body on GearzTV
I think the truck turned out pretty nice. Let's face it Staceys' demenor sometimes can be annoying. But in my opinion the show is pretty entertaining. We may not choose to do some of the upgrades he has chosen but that's what makes us all different. Big brake/stock brakes. Big wheels, stock wheels. Stock bed/wood bed. It's all up to you, make them how you want them. Sorry for the rant. I was just excited to see something besides muscle cars being restored or upgraded. I like seeing an episode or two about something I can relate to.

Re: Square body on GearzTV
This has really turned into a good discussion. I have to point out, comments were made about Stacey's decisions on the truck, keep in mind that it is a show. They have a team of sponsors (like LMC) and a team of producers that make all the decisions of what happens on the show. Stacey is just the face for all of us to put with it. Does he have some input in the upgrades...I'm sure. But is it HIS decision...not entirely.

The wheels and tires on that look a hell of alot better than on the '73 he just did IMO. I don't understand the concept on the '73 where he said going from a 15" to a bigger wheel is an "upgrade". Looked kinda hoopty to me...

Re: Square body on GearzTV
You have to consider that this is TV. If he just added rally wheels, and a fresh chrome bumper it would be very boring show.
