Re: air bags hitting the bump stops!!!!!

as for bump stops get a rubber freeze plug ( the temp kind that have a nut you tighen) then take the bolt out of your upper plate and use the freeze plug as a bump stop/plate bolt..I saw a pic of a guy running it and it worked well as for me I have no bump stops and cupped LCA so my LCA lays flat against the X member..my X is about 1.5" off the ground with stock spindles

Re: air bags hitting the bump stops!!!!!
I suggest you build a stop. Even the best engineered system "can" fail. If your system fails and you can't roll at all, you are at the mercy of being stuck where ever you are. That's not always a good thing.
I had an exhaust system failure the in turn melted an air line. I pulled over immediately. I got out and surveyed the landscape to discover I had broke down in the middle of nowhere. To compound matters I had almost zero cell phone reception. Wow, how lucky can one guy get to break down between two towns right in the middle of a dead cell zone. Fortunately my system allowed me to roll sitting on the bumpstops. I rolled down the shoulder for almost 5 miles to a rest stop. I was able to pull safely off of the Interstate and wait for a rollback. Bumpstops are a good thing.

Re: air bags hitting the bump stops!!!!!
Yeah i am going to make some stops on mine too just for the same reason N2TRUX said about being able to get the thing off the road if something stupid happens.
N2TRUX- yeah that makes for a bad day and to boot with no cell phone reception ![]() |

Re: air bags hitting the bump stops!!!!!
if you have an air failure and it drags you have scrub line issues not air......I would have jacked it up put a piece of wood in there and drove it home..but thats me....
with cupped LCA and a c notch I just clear the ground with my long headers the x member is 1" off

First off, I don't have scrub line concerns. In most cases when the system doesn't have a bump stop your tires are going to make contact with the fender liners, assuming you still have them. Next problem is you are assuming this involved only one corner. In this scenario, I blew the supply line going to the valve block so I lost all four corners. And last but not least, I carry extra line and fittings but this was in an area that was not readily accessible. I did have a small jack, but I did not trust it to lay under my truck while fighting a hot exhaust trying to patch the line up.

Re: air bags hitting the bump stops!!!!!
if it was a supply line and it got broken and the bags where aired up it shouldn't matter..reason # 2 to keep your vavles close to your bags reason #1 would be the amount of air to charge a long line in more than a short one.....longer hoses off your tank means more storage...back in the day we would run fuel lines in a zig zag just to carry an extra gallon of fuel..sometimes thats the dif between winning and runing out

most solenoid-style spool valves do NOT work without back pressure ... regardless of where they are mounted

Re: air bags hitting the bump stops!!!!!
Kinda hard to keep your valves near your bags when your running a manifold.
You can make up all the scenarios that you wish. The bottom line is a properly designed system should be able to roll if the system fails.

Re: air bags hitting the bump stops!!!!!
I think it all depends on what kind of truck ur building. daily driver - like n2trux said, u gotta have something there. u have more of a chance of something going wrong if u drive it everyday. on a project or weekend driver, most people probably wouldn't put one in because it looks all cluttered up in there. just my .02 cents on a bumpstump

Re: air bags hitting the bump stops!!!!!
I believe I read for the 67-72 1.75" tall is the lowest, for the 73-87 1.25" tall is the lowest. I was gonna cut mine down but decided I want to get 8.5" cups and recess them into the lca to get a few more inches of drop

Re: air bags hitting the bump stops!!!!!
This is a simple way to do it. Looks natural and not cluttered.
I had my bumpstop setup this way originally before I went all out on my frontend. |

Re: air bags hitting the bump stops!!!!!
I know this is an old thread, but it doesn't look like there's any way that bumpstop would ever actually hit. Correct me if I'm wrong!

Re: air bags hitting the bump stops!!!!!
My first old thread to be resurrected!! at full deflation, these stop would actually hit the
LCA. this is an oldie though. I sold this truck in 2011! it was a fun ride but i found a 67 short stepper that needed refreshing.

Re: air bags hitting the bump stops!!!!!
The D2600 are 2.8" deflated and you have a plate on top, so there must have been at least 2.8" between the crossmember and LCA fully aired out, right?
