Re: Throwin a 305 and a 700r4 in my 68
unless it is a vintage, numbers matching corvette from the 50's, i'd rather have the 292. even shorter stroke than the 307/327....basically a v8 honda!

Re: Throwin a 305 and a 700r4 in my 68
About 3 years ago a freind of mine told me he had a 350 he would sell me for 100 bucks.I said sure bring it over.He brought it over and the motor didn't have heads.I said that's no 350 that's a 305.I got out the calipers and measured.Sure enough 305.
I gave him the money anyway because I knew he needed it.I took that shortblock he sold me.Put a set of ported 461 double humps,458 lift lunati cam,Performer RPM a set of headers and a 1406 carb. Another buddy has a stock 76 454 powered 3/4 ton 2wd truck. We raced and I ate him alive. With my 305..I took that stuff of the 305 and sat the short block in the corner of the garage.I built a vortec headed 350 that I blew up after to many 7000 rpm shifts.I took the 305 stuck a set of 283 power pac heads and a stock 4 barrel intake.I drive the truck everyday. It sounds great and has plenty of power.I shift it at 6000 rpm and it feels great. And it gets pretty good fuel mileage as well.Dang thing gets a third gear scratch with a 3 on the tree! Why not keep a straight 6?The parts are cheap and plenty of them around for a sbc.You list stock power #'s for the engine's.Who cares about that. The sbc is gonna win.Who cares if it's a 305?

Well, contrary to the popular opinion, unless your 292 is dead, I think you are wasting time, money and effort swapping to a 305.
You will spend more than you think on the swap, and it's all for little benefit. Save the cash for a 350 or 383 / LS swap, whatever. |
