Re: Another LSx/4L60e Swap

It would allow the 5.3L compressor to fit, but at the expense of not being able to re-use the stock driveshaft (i would have to be shortened), and the need to move the shift linkage frame bracket.

Re: Another LSx/4L60e Swap

Sorry, I can't find any pics of the truck itself. There's not really much to see because it's pretty much blown apart to get to the frame. Can't wait to show off the power "Dallas Cowboy" edition power doors.

The truck had the usual rust areas, so I welded in pillars, kick panels, cab corners, outer floors and rocker panels on each side.

Re: Another LSx/4L60e Swap

The original harness was shot, so I replaced it with a Painless direct-fit. Many of the circuits aren't going to be used, so I have them tied uo for now. Also mounted the engine harness fuse block in the same area.

Re: Another LSx/4L60e Swap

I found a '91 Blazer cluster with electronic speedometer and got it tied into the chasis harness. All of the guages and lights work (not sure about the speedometer because I haven't tested it). I tapped the t-fitting near the oil filter and mounted a sender. Works great!

That T-fitting, is that where my oil cooler lines are? If so do I change that to this T-fitting or tap the oil cooler lines block?

Re: Another LSx/4L60e Swap

Street and Performance sells that bypass block, their are fairly reasonable on the price too (surprise surprise!!). I bet you could get a part number from a dealer too, then check at gmpartsdirect.com to see if they are cheaper.

Re: Another LSx/4L60e Swap

I just though I would post an FYI that the "electronic" speedos actually still need a cable drive from the transmission and the speedo it self has a signal generator for the computer (engine only during these years).

I hope that this saves you some time.

Just look at the back of the speedo yand you will see the cable fitting.

Ummm sorry, but you are wrong.

The electric speedo we use for these swaps come from a 90-91 Blazer, Suburban or dually. They are true electric speedometers, and only require the one signal output from the PCM ran to the cluster. You must re-pin the cluster connector, but there is NO speedo cable.

I believe that is a 90-91 cluster.
I have a 1989 sub that i'm parting and it has a speedo cable with an optical sensor for the computer.....I will look and see what the exact date is on the sub, maybe it was a mid year change?

The optical sensor should be the same one they used for years. It reads the pulses and buffers the signal for the VSS. There are two black marks on the back of the speedometer head, and that breaks the light reflection and counts as a pulse. IIRC, it is 1000 revoultions per mile x 2 pulses per revoultion = 2000PPM. The 90-91 electronic cluseters function with 4000 PPM.

Re: Another LSx/4L60e Swap

This is another oil pressure sender option I posted in the other thread.

Some people remove the oil pressure sending unit from the back of the engine and use a 16mm X 1.5 to 1/8NPT adapter and use that for their oil pressure line/sender. The PCM doesn't need the oil pressure sender (from what everyone tells me). I am having a T made for that location so I can have both (I believe a scanner, Tuner and things like an aeroforce gauge can read the stock sender)

This is the adapter fitting

Re: Another LSx/4L60e Swap

I left the 5.3's sending unit in it's original location, and drilled and tapped the bypass block and put the sender there. Why? Hell, I don't know. Cause it was funner to drill and tap something I guess?

May be a dumb question, but couldnt you have used the F-body (2002) sender and your factory wiring or was the location of the 5.3s sender an issue?
