Re: side mirror pics
My truck doesn't have any mirrors. Whoever did the body work filled the holes. I haven't looked inside the door yet to see if they filled the original holes with bondo or welded them. The style mirrors I want to put on are at the top of this page: http://www.lmctruck.com/icatalog/cbe/full.aspx?Page=47
It looks like they come with bolts that I assume thread into a tapped hole. Since I don't have these holes available, how would I go about mounting these? I only want to drill once. Anyone have measurements available or up close pictures to properly locate the mirrors? Thanks, Kevin C

Re: side mirror pics
I really like the idea of the blinkers in the mirror.
I sit there with my blinker on to merge, and the guy is just past seeing my rear blinker. Posted via Mobile Device

Re: side mirror pics
I'd measure mine but you really need measurements off a 64-66. From what I've seen 60-63 mirror mounts are parallel with the body line, and 64-66 angle upward toward the front.
Here are a couple of shots showing the difference: Quote:

Re: side mirror pics
Yea!
Mine has the smaller mirrors, and I know at least the driver's bracket is original (it had the rectangle heads, but I thought they were ugly), but it also has holes with fairly official-looking bolts in them where the West Coast style mirrors would have been. I always wondered if they all came with the holes, or if it had to have bigger mirrors on it at some point (seems more likely). You can kind of see them in this picture: Also, although both sides had matching worn-out, white-painted rectangle mirror heads, the passenger side post is painted white while the driver's side is turquoise. I assume the passenger mirror was added at the dealership when it was new. |

Re: side mirror pics
Yes, the driver's door mounting holes are official.
I believe all Driver's doors have them whether they're used or not. Quote:

Re: side mirror pics
That's interesting. I've always had a hard time figuring it out, because the restored trucks always seem to have them gone or filled-in or whatever.

Re: side mirror pics
I knew it was that way the other way around. The holes and filler bolts and everything look "correct" on mine, but my lower holes are higher than those.

Yes, that's what I meant.
The 3 holes in a triangle pattern on the driver's door are official. Sorry if I explained it wrong above. Posted via Mobile Device

Re: side mirror pics
Only improvement I could suggest is them to have ran the wire down the mounting arm.
That way the wire could of been ran down the door frame and all would of been hidden. Posted via Mobile Device

Re: side mirror pics
I am going to keep the original West Coasters that were a dealer installed option in 1966. Note that the single hinge pin is on the side of the mirror. This allows the mirrors to be turned out and flipped for trailer hauling.

Re: side mirror pics
I didn't notice the wire either, and agree with your assessment. I'd be sending it back if I didn't notice the wire until after purchase.

It was a good idea though.

Re: side mirror pics
Because I'm going back to OEM stock I have the original arms. BUT I bought both the round 5" and the retangle 4x6" mirrors and had them painted white.
Depending on the trip and time I will probally switch them out from time to time. Jake

Re: side mirror pics
I tried a square mirror once, but it vibrated so badly I couldn't see out of it above 40 mph. Hopefully you'll have better luck.
