Great write up. I can't stress enough, for those that have a decent compressor, get a die grinder to be able to use the Roloc discs. They come in varying compounds, red and brown are the most common and work absolutly fantastic for finish wrok.

This is good stuff to know. I use to only weld on 1/8" or bigger, and now with body work, ie patch panels, I guess I need a lighter touch on grinding down the welds.

Just read this post - great write up and great info. Goes to show there's many more ways to skin a cat (or a door!)...I often use the edge of a cut-off wheel to start dressing my welds. As you mentioned, less heat build up and they take the weld off fast at little expense vs burning up flap discs.
Hope you do more of these!

Nuke,

I saw in another thread you use the U-POL #2 Copper Weld Thru Primer. Any reason you use the copper vs. the zinc?

Also what primer do you use to prime over bare metal?

I'm just trying to gather different opinions before I cut into my truck.

I sure wish i woulda read this before i butchered the roof on my truck chopping it before really learning to weld sheet goods. Though it looks good now, it sure would have saved alot of time, and a few nights of disgust.

But at least i got it before welding the 3'' section back together.

Unfortunately, i dont own a good compressor and am stuck with using primarily flap disks on the 4" electric grinder.

Is this a sticky, or in the FAQ? If not, I think it should be. This is excellent info. Especially for a beginning metal manipulator such as myself. I refer to this all the time as I have no clue about dressin metal. Thanks a lot for this info! It is already helping me to get familiar with workin metal and I haven't even gotten to my body work yet! Thanks again Nuke!
