If those don't hook try a Hoosier or the new goodyear Drag Radial. My buddies camaro does much better on the hoosier than a mickey.

Re: Went better than expected

I will run these tires out or try to sell them and then see what tire I want to run.
The hoosiers are NICE, most of the high HP guys are using them over others.
I am getting amp'd up, I would like to go NOW and just hang out at the track till 6 when they start running, LOL

Performance parts!
I cut my teeth on F-bodys, started with LT1s and now have moved to the LSx platform. I have been involved with alot of different things.

I could give examples of what all has been accomplished or a google search on Herron Performance or Shon Herron.

Re: Went better than expected

WELL, another unexpected result!
DA was 2100' and on motor went 9.17 @ 78.5, I have not looked to see what that corrects to just yet but it seems inline with the first runs b/c the 60' was 2.15, ie .15 slower than before and 300+' more air.

I got the jet I needed for the 150 but it was not the right design so we left the 100 shot in it.

!HOLD ON PEOPLE!

hitting it about 30-40' out:
1.80 7.83 @ 88.52
I made 2 other passes after that in the left lane that was crap after a mustang broke and they had to clean up and did not get that lane to stick.

Overall very pleased with the way it runs. But I got to tear down the rear end, the posi is messed up and will try to rebuild it before it kills other stuff in there.

It sure has been FUN!!

For your viewing pleasure:

Re: Went better than expected

What type of nitrous system did you use? Wet, Dry and brand. That's pretty impressive.

Re: Went better than expected

A borrowed wet Nitrous Works kit with 52/28 jets in it. Master arm switch and me hitting the button.
It went 1.99 8.199 @ 87.5 blowing the tires off in 1st, trying to hit it alot sooner than the video run.

Picture is misleading, I am not running a MAF perse, I used it in this situation to hold the nozzle but it's a SD tune.

Re: Went better than expected

that's great shon! i can wait to get the 5.3 in my sons truck and run it. to give you a little comparo. my station wagon weighs in at 4700lbs with driver and real close to what you do. here is the difference in na-hittin nos 60' out and right off line.

1.897--------------1.886----------1.698
8.900--------------8.235----------8.011
76.12mph----------84.75mph------84.09mph
14.056------------12.828---------12.642

so you easily have a low 12 second truck be gentle on the rear and trans like you are and prolly 11's juice out of the gate

Re: Went better than expected

It looked good man. It would be awesome if you could hook a 150shot off the line.

BTW-I am confused about "with a 22"-what is that referencing? the only 22 i see on the truck is the mufflers, LOL
I used an 5x4.75 on front. I carried the factory rotors to a local machine shop and they were able to drill a second set of hole for me. I just had to clearance a small amount of the shoulder on the Moroso studs to clear the inside of the hub area. Easy fix, and opens up more possibilities for used racing wheels. I run Weld Rodlites on mine.

I was looking for a 3/4 drop. just for looks.

I plan on putting a fuel tank between the rails sometime.

Guess I need to do the fuel thing before figuring out the suspension changes....
OR are these trucks not as finicky?
I am used to F-bods where it was pretty simple b/c I had done so many of those and they are much lighter.
You have to keep in mind that the factory style rear spring is bolted to the frame, and the trailing arm with a plate. These suspensions want to seperate from the body on launch. The stiffer, and shorter springs will resist being stretched just as much as being compressed. I already tried this, and could not get the truck to plant a radial tire. I would go ahead and install coil-overs. I tagged/insured mine and drove it on the street. Just gotta remember to soften the valving some from your radial tire setting for track use, or it will ride so rough it will hurt your back! Paul

Re: Went better than expected

Well, it has a 3/4 spring drop from CPP so it is what it is now, the Hoosier slicks are mounted and we are going to work them out tonight.
simple 100 shot is all we are doing but it will be fun....

and really, I think I will not have issues, I dont plan on going that fast in it....dont want a bar in it so 7.49 is the limit....once the next round of mods are done I will only need a 50shot to get there, LOL

Re: Went better than expected

Gotta take it as a good night, I drove it there, had a buddy do all the tire changin, and drove it home.

Motor pass sucked at 9.3/77
100 shot pass best was 8.05/86 with a 1.826 60'.

Changes were a 28" Hoosier Slick from a 26" BFG DR, this hurt the motor I know and dummy me did not check air pressure before leaving and they only had 13 so next time I will have them air'd up some b/c I need more air for this slow truck.
Nitrous was probably a true 100 shot instead of the 1400PSI bottle that made it go 7.8s before, had 900PSI this trip, but it likes the hose, picks up a ton and still hitting it by hand and not on a true WOT switch. Will work on that in the next few days. And will look for the jets to up the shot.
Been so busy working on other peoples stuff I have not put the WB on it to dial in the tune so I made sure it was rich b/c I dont want to lean it out and pop it so eventually I will spend time dialing in the motor tune and then the nitrous jets. but overall I can not complain, its fun and I can drive it any where I want!!

Speaking of other peoples stuff, I had just finished up tuning a 98Z28 with a 23x cam and bolt ons. He went 7.8s @ 91 first time out with slicks and stock suspension, i really didnt think it would go 7s that soon so with some suspension work he will go quick and its full weight which I learned later he still had the spare and jack in there and everything else under the sun....so it will do pretty good, that was nice to see him impressed with it....

Re: Went better than expected

Nice numbers man! My truck LOVED a 28" M/T vs. a 26" with a 3.73 and 80E. But that is due to it loading the engine and lighting the turbo sooner. Nice rig...looks awesome with the new rims.

Going TH night if everything works the way I have 'drawn' it up.
The 150 jets are in there so we are hoping for some 7s this time.
will report back once the passes have been made.

Re: Went better than expected

I have been driving it daily since I put it together, LOL
I actually did not drive it in the summer b/c the CTS V has A/C but otherwise I would have never stopped.
I take this truck ANY WHERE. So far we are getting 14-15MPGs driving it the way I want to.

I was going 5.3/4l60e but then had a wild hair I needed to tow my race car with it so we went and got the LQ4/4l80e...in the mean time I have sold the race car and now the truck is the toy. I like the TQ of the 6.0 and they say the 4l80e is STRONG but it would be quicker at the track with the TH350 I have, or even a 4l60e since it has the 3.06 1st gear to get all this mass going.

If I was builing a cruiser and wanted MPGs, 5.3, if you want the TQ and bigger motor then 6.0 and feed it. the 5.3 should get 18-20, my FIL's 5.3 Z71 truck get 20+ around town and 15 towing that race car I got rid of...

Re: Went better than expected

my sons truck will be a "truck". that is why i'm leaning towards the bigger combo. we use the wifes navigator but at times may wanna use the truck to tow to the track. he's only 11 now but is paying for this with his mowing money. i figure he may want to step up to riders at some point. also he has a quad and dirt bike so he'll be using it to go ride/race with his friends. i can live with 15ish. since i'm sure his mom will be payin for some of the gas (with my money)
