Re: vintage air
yes you can use the 5.3 compressor, it IS NOT a variable compressor....ive done this many times, also VA will tell you that IT IS covered with their warrienty, ive talked with them a few time about this subject, and they WILL stand behind their warrienty...all the kits ive ordered were directly through VA, and included the magnum 4, a direct fit condencer with dryer, either a bi-nary or tri-nary sw., vent styles of my choice, and a universal line/fiting kit...basically everything needed minus the compressor (cause i was useing the stock 5.3 one) shipped was about 1200$ IIRC

Re: vintage air
So is it settled? No problem using the stock compressor on the 5.3? I have already purchased a "complete" VA setup for our trucks. It came with the sanden compressor too, but I don't know if it will mount on an ls engine without fabbing custom mounting brackets. Would I be better off using it? sorry not trying to hijack, seems there a bunch of ls conversions going on here. very helpful info.

Re: vintage air
1st you can use the LS compressor, I am and it blows cold just fine. Wire it externally from the PCM tho. The PCM just provides a ground.
If you have your VA set up and it has the Sanden Compressor and you dont have the ls compressor, contact Kwikperformance and get their brackets. I have an Old Air Products AC System and all is well.

Re: vintage air
Here's a writeup from Custom Classic Trucks where they installed a Gen IV in one of our trucks: http://www.customclassictrucks.com/t...ing/index.html
From what I've researched so far, the kit that is in the summit link is only the unit itself (unit, evaporator, brackets, wiring harness, heater control valve, drain kit and the defroster bits) You'd also need to buy a drier, condenser, hose kit, have the hoses crimped by a shop, buy the vents for the cab, a bulkhead and fittings, a compressor with brackets (unless you've got one already), a safety switch and the electronic control unit of your choice. Then 134a of course.
