Re: 230 straight 6 to 327 v8 same bell housing?

I'm surely going to hunt down a 350 then.
It's the cheapest to rebuild.

Re: 230 straight 6 to 327 v8 same bell housing?

Just to settle up on my original question on this thread. I pulled the 230 straight 6. The bellhousing bolted right up to the 327 small block. The clutch fit except I tossed the bracket mounted on the 6 and put a stud ball right in the 327 block.. hooked up the linkage and perfect fit.. motor mounts from the 6 fit perfectly as well. Only upgrade was the 2 row 1" thick radiator had to be bumped up to a 3 row 2" thick to keep it cool.

Yeah as noted before the only issues with bell housing is with the older inline 6, ther 235. That is different, but the 230-250-292 is the same.

Re: 230 straight 6 to 327 v8 same bell housing?

Does anyone know if the chevy small block 400 is the same block as a 327 and 350? I have a chance to pick up a running 400 to put into the 64 that Im picking up today. The truck has a stroked 250 with low gear 4speed.

If you mean externally, yes, it will bolt up anywhere that any other smallblock was used. However, it requires a "400 only" flywheel and harmonic balancer. Do not attempt to transfer these parts from a 350 or smaller engine.

Thanks Ray. I think those were the 2 parts the guy took off the motor. I will see if he used them after all.

Not trying to Hijack, but I cannot get to Persh's website, both my computer at work, and my home one are blocking it through the anti virus program, it pops up anytime I go to even this post. Is anyone else having that problem? I searched his name on the forum, and each one of the posts that had his website in it it popped up. I noticed this on another board as well.

Sorry for the hijack, just thinking someone may have an idea about what is happening, and maybe others are having the same problem.

Still a no go, thanks though!!! Is he on here where I could contact him directly? I looked in the members directory, and did not see Persh or Van Pershing.
