We hope to get started in the next few weeks. Don't have a shop to work in so weather will dictate how much we can get done this winter.

Re: New Member - Father, Daughter '62 Project
This will be my first experience with a hydraulic clutch. Are they OK or are they problematic? When I drove the truck home after buying it, the clutch seemed to be fading the farther I drove.

Re: New Member - Father, Daughter '62 Project
They're no more problematic than mechanical linkage. Once the cylinders are rebuilt (or replaced) and a new hose installed the system will likely hold up for another several decades without maintenance. Long ago the hydraulic clutch posed a problem if you wanted to add power brakes, but now Captainfab produces the best designed bracket available for adding a brake booster while retaining the hydraulic clutch system, should that be something you want.

Re: New Member - Father, Daughter '62 Project
My daughter was googling to figure out what year truck her front grill is from and we think it's off of a 1960. Anyone in agreement?

Re: New Member - Father, Daughter '62 Project
If it has CHEVROLET embossed on the lower portion, then yes it is a 1960 grill.

Re: New Member - Father, Daughter '62 Project
Gonna get a Pertonix Ignitor kit ordered soon. We rebuilt the stock single barrell but we're still not happy with the way it starts and runs. Considering going with a newer 2bbl but are wondering if any of you have any suggestions. We need a low budget idea to make the sixer better.

Re: New Member - Father, Daughter '62 Project
Welcome. Congrats on the purchase. I still talk about working on stuff with my dad when I was younger. You guys will have a blast with that truck, and make tons of memories. My 4 y.o. is destined to be a gearhead when she gets bigger.

Re: New Member - Father, Daughter '62 Project
Just the other day I fiddled with my truck. I hooked up a battery to the stereo and was sitting inside listening to it. Luca came down and sat in there with me and just said it has been a long time since we sat in there. I want to get it done so we can enjoy it more. He is 8 now and cant wait to go for a ride again.

Re: New Member - Father, Daughter '62 Project
It has the original 235 in it and seems to be bone stock. Will most newer I6 distributors fit? Any idea the appoximate year of the donor?

Re: New Member - Father, Daughter '62 Project
I checked out your pics. Cool build! Occasionally my daughter and I (and sometimes the 80 lb.dog) just sit in the truck and plan the build and shoot the breeze...good times. My 13 year old son hasn't caught the fever yet but I see him being a 4WD guy.

Re: New Member - Father, Daughter '62 Project
There aren't any newer distributors that will fit the 235. If you want to upgrade your distributor, you can get a Pertronix electronic conversion for that distributor http://www.summitracing.com/search/?...PNX-1168&dds=1. You'll likely see a slight mpg increase with this too.
If that doesn't fit in the budget, just do a complete tune up. Points, condenser, cap, rotor, wires and plugs. Maybe even a little hotter coil.
