Re: got a 65 930 GMC today

what snow. we don't get any snow here. we had a little skiff of it a few weeks back. was here for maybe a day . that "may" be it for the winter.
this little town I believe gets the least snow fall in Canada. perhaps that we are so close to the US and perhaps it is all of that hot air from our southern neighbours keeps us warm

That's cool man, when you get a chance snap some shot of the interior and engine bay. You got alot for $200 good deal.

Re: got a 65 930 GMC today

it is that area above the w/s that takes away from a good deal, but I don't think that I went to far wrong. I was still debating the 200(with myself) this afternoon whether or not I was just wasting my time

Re: got a 65 930 GMC today

I just saw Canada British Columbia and I think snow. I did'nt know you were so close to the sea. My grandma live on the Island. Thanks for the pictures. The stuff was really cool. I think the only thing I made on a lathe was a in high school it was a bowl for a pipe. What's the plans for the truck?

Re: got a 65 930 GMC today

I always felt that there was some good in you. where abouts does your grandma live?
maybe shorten the frame a little and fix some of the rust and use it. I do have a spare suburban frame, which would eliminate shortening the other, but the 17" might come in handy. would make a good work truck

Vancover Island I'm not sure where. So fancy old folks home. I was born in Vernon. I only lived there for a few days. All my family lives up there. And AZ in the winter.

Re: got a 65 930 GMC today

used it for work today for the first time
rebuilt the rear wheel cyls and 1 thing leads to another. changed half of the steel lines until I got to where I finally could undo a fitting. so made those up. when I went to bleed them , I couldn't get any fluid to the rear so I replaced the rear b/hose and off to the races.
It does need other things which will get done, but at least it is moving and stopping

Re: got a 65 930 GMC today

none of that up and down crap. now if it also had a set of 4 x 4 axles and this cab and a long box on it, it would be just about right. I am not that old that I would have to drop the body on the ground so that I could get in the truck
that crew cab body and a long box would just fit that 157" w/b

WOW!! I'd love to have that cab! Been looking all over the country for one. I built my own a couple years ago- but wasn't what I envisioned when starting the project.

Re: got a 65 930 GMC today

well I think that I got lucky again. .just found a 87 3/4t gmc with a running tbi engine in it. so I have my newer ftr and rear ends p/s and p/b and maybe an eng for another $250.00. his 10 year old son and others bombarded it with rocks on Halloween. it was a construction truck which was relegated to yard duty. He did replace the eng a while back so I am hoping to be lucky, then I won't have to go looking for a p/s brkts for a 250 I6(they may not be to hard to find anyway

been driving it daily. took the dog in it for the first time today. got approval.
picked up my 87 3/4t yesterday. the eng is a tbi 5.7 with a sm465. is there much advantage of a sm 465 over the sm320. I don't have a problem using the 465 except that I have to hook up for the hydr clutch that comes with this setup. I haven't seen anything on what the difficulty would be in adapting it to the 64--66 type pedal setup. don't imagine that it will be to difficult.
the electrical may be a pain in the ass though as I have never appreciated electrical

have bumper' grill, and fenders for it already

Re: got a 65 930 GMC today

Cool man. The SM465 is supposedly stronger, and it does have closer space gears, with 1st and 3rd being taller than on the SM420. It may not be worth swapping if yours works fine.

Re: got a 65 930 GMC today

went to see if the heater was going to work to day after changing the harness; it didn't work before either. wonder if this had anything to do with it?

By rondavid at 2011-02-24
not much had worked before I changed the harness
the complete heater box was just crammed full of crap. the core was solid

Re: got a 65 930 GMC today

it is working not to bad now. I can take it out on the highway, runs smooth.took the old 17 and 18" tires and wheels off and put some 33x12.5x15 on it that came off my 4 x 4. I couldn't go over 30 mph before. orig had all budd 18" wheels on it and they all take 1/2" flat wheel nuts. po had put some 17 on the frt and they required beveled nuts but the d/**** put the flat nuts on them.
he had changed the motor over from a 292 to a 250and put the 292 perch on the pass side and it didn't line up so it didn't get bolted to the frame. fixed tha and went to check out the clutch linkage as it was in need of adj(at the floor) donm't know how he screwed up the ball stud coming off the eng, but the ball stud was missing of the brky and there was the head of a carriage bolt with some rubber on the end of it for the ball stud(had a good one) and that v shaped spacer that goes on the clutch rod at the throw out arm was missing(had 1 of them handy also..). while I was doing that I decded to have a look at the rear mounts and there weren't any there. there was on loose insulator sitting between the bottom of the eng and the crossmember ( had the spare parts to fix all that too). I don't throw to much away. parts always seem handy to have around
the compression on the eng was good,135-150 so am going to run it for awhile. found the p/s brkts for 50.00 thks to geezer#99.
everything is working now except for the turn signal and emerg brake.Just have to change the turn sig mechanism which I have and the emerg brake gets fixed when I change the rear axle over to the 87. it is trans mounted nd looks like it needs lining
the only parts that I have had to buy was 32 1/2" lug nuts and some wire ends. got to keep cost down on this thing as I need my money for the other one

I think that's OK. It's normal. Just put a bigger wire on it and some WD-40. It will be fine.

i put it down and let the dog pee on it. that works better than wd40 and you don't need the larger wire
