Re: M1009 with LQ9
My boss who is also my best friend has bought a 85 2500 4x4 suburban that we are fixing to transplant a lq4 and 4l80e in. This is going to be his daily driver so we are gonna do it up nice. Heck we are taking 2 and gonna make one out of it. He bought a 88 about a month ago that had a nice interior but it has some pretty bad rust issues, good news is that he is gonna let me have the 3:73 axle's to go in my 86 k10 so I can get rid of the 3:08's. I am keeping an eye out for a 5.3 to go in it so I have several ls swaps in the future.
I am gonna use the stock truck harness on his suburban as I have read that it is real easy so if anyone has done a truck harness please chime in. |

Re: M1009 with LQ9
In the 2nd pic in your first post... is the frame cracked on the left side (left side of picture?)... looks like it is. Hope you welded that up.
Good looking rig!

I think you're seeing the shackle hanger. I did a double take too.

Re: M1009 with LQ9
Yes...it makes sense. Gotta put my thinking cap on when i am on days off from the drill rig...lol. I'll hit my buds shop this afternoon and take a peek.
What i really need is a rot free 90-91 K5 minus engine-trans-xfer so i can start over my way and top it off with a chalet camper and call it good. Thanx for the info. DW

Re: M1009 with LQ9
Update.... Up until last week I have been running with only 70% throttle avaliable. Wow, what a difference 30% more throttle makes. If you are making much over stock HP get a 255lph pump, I went with the pump out of a 350vortec truck and it is leaning out above 4k rpm and now I have to replace the pump so that is just a fyi and I should have know better.

Re: M1009 with LQ9
Just read through your thread. Nice build.
I'm look at putting LS 6.2 in my 86 blazer. Any advise would be helpful. Looks like I will need motor mounts, a new crossmember, new fuel tank and sending unit for 87-91 blazer. Which fuel pump are you using, is it an in tank pump? I have a 700r4 so will I need an adapter to bolt it to the motor?

Re: M1009 with LQ9
No problem.
Things have changed some here too. Put an '07 5.3L/4L60E in it, almost have it done.

Re: M1009 with LQ9
Nice truck, Teck! You should start up a build thread. Why the change of plans, jkade? Putting this drivetrain in another rig?

Re: M1009 with LQ9
Changed because at the the time I could find a 6.2 I wanted, so I did the 5.3 just to get the swap worked out. As for the 4L60E I went with it because of the DBW, didn't want to change to cable gory to make the 700r4 work.
Here is a link to my build at CK5. http://coloradok5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=253165 Sometime I guess I should do one here.

Re: M1009 with LQ9
That's a decent price with all the trimmings. The road trip home would be a little long. Throw it up in the classifieds with some pics and a link to this thread.

Re: M1009 with LQ9
i know this is old... but i have a question about the tank and the pump... can you explain what tank you are using and what pump setup? I am trying to get a 5.3L swap together on an almost non-existent budget....
