Re: BBrendal's 1972 K5 build thread

Well I went to the body shop today and some progress made. Front end is all in primer and now there taking out some small dents. Ive decided to stay with the blue paint and white top with no rear exterior spare tire. The camper mirrors are being changed to sport mirrors as well. The interior (as of now) is going to be blue vinyl because to get highlander seat covers again seem to be a pain in the a$$. Plus I like the blue vinyl BUT Im also liking the white and black houndstooth but Im concerned with the upkeep of that to keep it looking good. The wheels are going to be 15 X 8 stock white rims with bottle cap style hub caps with a set of 33x12.5 BFGs.

That's great progress! I'm in the primer stage myself, but I think your body shop is working a heck of a lot faster than I am! Keep up with the pics. It helps motivate some of us!

Re: BBrendal's 1972 K5 build thread

I think it is a perfect color combination as it is. Mine is in the body/paint shop too. FWIW, I took the swing away tire carrier off mine and will install a stock inside carrier.

Okay got some more work done to the Blazer. All holes for the swing tire carrier and camper mirror welded, filled and primed. All dents taken out and a little closer to paint. Here some more pics.

Hopefully sometime in May. It depends on how slow the body shop is. My truck is one of those "fill in" jobs to keep his guys busy. I cant complain since hes giving me a great deal.

Where are you getting your 15x8 stock wheels, I can't find them anywhere without going aftermarket.

The wheels are already got! I was able to get 2 wheels from a guy that had an extra 2 and the other two I got are NOS on ebay. I was able to get the stock blue bow tie bottle caps as well. I think I got lucky because I was able to score all 4 rims within 3 weeks. They were not cheap but they were cheaper then new aftermarket aluminums. I searched military blazers and was able to find the 15x8 weels I needed. I do need 2 front 4x4 bottle caps if any one can help me out.

Yea i've got WTB adds in a few places looking for them off of old CUCV K5's. As far as the hubcaps are concerned, i've got you beat, I have two NOS front dogdish hubcaps two perfect rear ones but only the stock 15x6 wheels soo far. If you come across more 15x8's let me know and i'll keep my eye out for hubcaps. Btw within the last few weeks a full set of hubcaps went on ebay cheap, like 30 bucks. Try all kinds of different searches, sometimes people list them wrong.

Re: BBrendal's 1972 K5 build thread

Well my truck is blue again! They are doing the wetsanding and buffing this week and will be ready on Friday for me to put back togeteher. Here are some pics.

Roll bar and wheel wells installed.

Im still not sure if I shoud stay with the rally wheels on them. (all cleaded up of corse) or put the 15 x 8 stock white wheels with the bottle caps. I need to figure it out before I get the 33 inch BFGoodrich A/Ts. Any ideas or comments???

Re: BBrendal's 1972 K5 build thread

Looking great!

On the wheels....is the interior staying white?

The top is going to stay white?

If so, I think the white wheels with caps would look really good....I'm actually a big fan of stock wheels, rally wheels, and big billet....but more and more I like seeing stock wheels on a stock or mild restoration....

Top is going to stay white and interior is going to be blue vinyl. Im leanning toward the stock white 15 x 8 with the dog dish caps.

I have rally wheels, painted black with the chrome trim ring. I think that looks good on a stock (or mostly stock) truck. If you already have them I would go that route. it's only paint and if you dont like them, it wasn't much of an investment....

Re: BBrendal's 1972 K5 build thread

Picked up the Blazer from the body shop today and I am stoked! I am extremly happy how it turned out and I can still say all original metal on it. Uncut perfect doors and dash. Now Ill empty the boxes that are all around and put this baby back together. In about two weeks it will get the trans overhauled and a new set of BFGs with 15 x 8 stock rims. Heres a few pics.

That is the same wheel plan I have for mine, but I'm quite a ways behind you. Should get my wheels back in two weeks. Your blazer looks great.

Re: BBrendal's 1972 K5 build thread

Well the Blazer progress is moving along. All the parts boxes are almost empty. A trans over haul and some trim and outer grill polishing are the biggest hurdles to tackle. I have to say I really lucked out on this Blazer. Window frame, torsion boxes, rear hatch, floors, and even the rocker panels were perfect. All the original metal is still on this truck. This truck really deserved a frame off but I would never drive it if I did that so frame up it is. Here are some pics...

emblems and windows installed

Dash together

Ohh and some new shoes and rims

A sneak peak. Cant put them on till the trans is rebuilt.
