Re: picked up a 63 gmc long bed
Hey man, glad to see you got on. I've got half that bumper bolted up already, gonna finish it up today and post some pics on my build thread. These guys know all there is to know so if you got a question they're the ones to ask. lol

Re: picked up a 63 gmc long bed
yeah im pretty sure the guy that put the steering column in needed to spin it around. He also put some of the gauges in backwards. The high beam label is backwards and a couple of other things. The truck is a 3/4 ton so the rear end should be stronger than the 1/2 tons. Yeah I planned on changing all fluids before even driving it, then once I got it to operating temps. change the fluids several more times

Re: picked up a 63 gmc long bed
also where is a good place to get parts that is fairly reasonable on price. I found a bunch at LMC and classicparts.com. Not sure if these places have good prices or not? I know LMC is pretty pricey on other year model trucks. Just like to get the most bang for my buck.

Re: picked up a 63 gmc long bed
did a little bit of sanding this evening to find the extent of the cancer on the front of the hood. Here's a couple of pics. Tell me what you guys think I should do about this to fix it please lol.

Re: picked up a 63 gmc long bed
I would just try another hood they do make a patchpanel for the upper part, but not the lower gmc part...
or you could find someone that is cutting up a gmc hood, and repair it like that. really the easiest way would be to find a good hood from any 60-66 chev or gmc, and use that until you find a nice 63-66 gmc hod.

Re: picked up a 63 gmc long bed
I agree
Finding another hood would be the best solution. It is probably rusted out back towards the cab on the sides too. Quote:

Re: picked up a 63 gmc long bed
easier to get a used hood. They are around fer sure. Im curious if you can get it running. Put a battery on it. see what works, fresh gas down the carb and fire it up...
also prolly cheaper to drop in a craigslist 350/305 than do a rebuild...unless you want to do it for fun.

Re: picked up a 63 gmc long bed
well got my floor pans ordered, door sills (what I call entry plates) for both sides, started taking hooks off the outside of the bed that I think the previous owner installed and started welding the holes shut, then started a little more sanding
