Re: Retro-Tech- 77

Ken Ken Ken, there is nothing else to say. There is a company in the Truckin magazine that makes the same front bumper with the fog lights for the 81-87 that I plan on getting. Keep up the good work Boss!! I didn't think there was anything else that could be done to it but we always find something else to do..lol

Re: Retro-Tech- 77

I agree with you Jeff. Unfortunately thats not going to happen on this one. I do have s et of bolts that have a flatter head on them. Thats what it will have when it goes together the last time.

Re: Retro-Tech- 77

Does the grill actually bolt to the center support? I am seriously thinking of converting my 85 to the 73 frontend but I will need all the room I can get between the grill and the core support for the future. I will have a lift off fiberglass hood rather than a stock hood.

Yes, it requires the 73-74 center brace, side brackets, external hood latch, and external strike pin. It will reduce the gap between the grill and core support.

Thanks! I have been undecided about how I like the bumper now that its on. I think once I get the new headlights it will all tie together nicely.

I have not had any progress, due to waiting on parts. Combine that with several backyard projects, and the truck is gathering dust.

I had the core support filler panel painted after several holes were filled. I will post pics of this and the new headlights this weekend.

Re: Retro-Tech- 77

Is it possible to not use the center brace? I will have a lift off fiberglass hood. How much room between your radiator and the back of the center brace? I need room for an intercooler later on down the road.

Re: Retro-Tech- 77

Between waiting on parts, or parts to be painted this project came to a standstill for a while. Combine that with my Summer schedule that included hosting a 4th of July backyard bash, and a lot of time has slipped by.With most of my parts ready to go, I spent some time working on the headlight update.

Hey Ken,... do you have a link to those headlights?
They look like a plug-and-play install.
Or do you have to wire in some relays?

Re: Retro-Tech- 77

Keith you can contact Chris (Capt Kaos) as he is our local distrubitor. The supplier is Round Eyes Performance Lights- LINK

They are not exactly "plug & play" but don't take much to install. My article is updated to show the mods required.

Re: Retro-Tech- 77

Ken, I love the truck and the upgrades with the exception of the bumper. I know you said you feel the headlights will tie the bumper into the equation, and I'll reserve my final judgment until I see a pic with both, but for now, I'm not feelin it. I understand the minor modern adjustments you're making to make the truck a little more pleasurable to drive, but to me, the bumper detracts from the "O.E." look of your truck too much. I think rechromed smooth bumpers minus the driving lights would fit the look of your truck a lot better IMO.

Love the rest though esp. the grille, the 73/74 looks right at home on your truck!
