the original rally's in 67 where available on all Chevy cars that came with the "new" disc brakes....they where for better cooling of the disc rotors.....

Re: Where did rally wheels come from?
Great information, Fitz! If you can, please answer this for me, what is (or is there) any difference between what Chevy advertised as "Rallye" wheels and what many are calling "Rally" wheels. I know that the car and truck wheels were different in appearance. What I am talking about may be all 1960s advertising hype. Thanks for your post.

Are those fractions...the backspacing? If you said it was, I missed it. That's good information.

Re: Where did rally wheels come from?
Were'nt rally wheels originally created for military vehicles back in the day? Maybe I'm mistaken, but I thought I had read it somewhere.

Re: Where did rally wheels come from?
This is the problem with the lack of authenticity found on most "original class"67 thru 72 pickups. To make matters works, you have articles written up by people who don't even know they are incorrect. Point, Hemmings Oct 2011 page 76. Article on 72 c10 cheyenne. A pretty good article about the luxury of the new for '71 cheyenne model but author gets fooled by the nice resto job. Quote: "A high percentage of them were sold with either elaborate full wheel covers or rally-type wheels with trim rings."

Re: Where did rally wheels come from?
You just named the difference and I think you want to know what years used what(?) and I can't answer that. I just went through this thread and kept wondering how car rallyes kept coming up. The topic is truck rallyes, which are the ones that fit these trucks. Wheel Vintiques started making the five slot car rallyes in 5 on 5 and, sorry,I can't say what year they came out (that was the question). If the topic was car rallyes, there are more than one style.

Re: Where did rally wheels come from?
Boy i know i will hear if from a lot of bored members on this one But i have to chime in on this one.Now i see in a lot of states that are pretty calm about size of wheel on there old Rides Butt here in calif. I have to say it and ledzepp will or will not agree But The people that live in calif are let just say there pitiful.Every car or truck in the low housing area's have rim's over 22 inch and i see it as a wast of money and tires and brakes
Just to add Most of these people that have anything over a 19 inch rim do not understand that you chew up your brakes faster then having a smaller tire size and you only get 15,000 to 19,000 miles out of your tires that cost from 150.00 a tire to 400 man i can buy 4 15 for 435.00 and they get 65--70,000 miles To days people are so wasteful |

Re: Where did rally wheels come from?
It can be confusing to many people as some GM wheels were called rally wheels, sport wheels, rally 2 wheels, styled steel wheels and I think some were called road wheels back then between the different divisions as I recall.
And the later steel ones starting in 88 with trim ring and center caps called rally wheels too. As usual Keith you are a wealth of information on all things GM.

Re: Where did rally wheels come from?
Ok, where did rallye wheels come from? Europe!
When were they first used on US-built GMs? 1965 GTO- 6 slots When were they first used on Chevy cars? 1967 Sting Ray*- 5 slots When were they first used on C10 trucks? I always thought it was 1976**- 16 slots When were they first used on K10 trucks? I always thought it was 1976**- 10 slots * AFAIK ** Could be wrong, but I thought it was when the hubcaps and consoles changed. Look at Chevy brochures from 1975 and find rallyes shown to prove me wrong. I just might be, but '76 is how I've had it. Always wanting to learn

Re: Where did rally wheels come from?
Ok, there ya go! I should have read your post that showed the RPO dated 9/74. even when I Googled to check on myself, they didn't have a clue. They same literature popped up for both '75 and '76. Just to be sure I'll ask someone with personal experience through ownership combined with actually working with GM for many years....Oh, hey Keith. Howya been?

Re: Where did rally wheels come from?
I was under the impression that the 6 lug 8 inch wide rally wheels were a stock option for 71-72 k5 blazers. Is that not true?
