Re: Whats under your hood?
I like the Nailheads and Straight 6's but a Tri Power 455 Pontiac would get it pretty good too!

Re: Whats under your hood?
I like the "weird" or different motors in your truck for the sake of conversation but for the sake of $$$ in my wallet I am certain I would prefer a SBC but my first choice is the 4.8, 5.3 or 6.0L motors that are cheap and readily available in the junkyards these days. Also I like the gas mileage you get from the new LS series of motors. If you are on a budget and I obviously am then a cool conversation piece is just that...its cool but not friendly to the bank account.

Re: Whats under your hood?
How about putting a 348 tri-power or a 409 w/dual quads. That's what would replace my 350 with if I could afford one. I wonder if in 1965 could you special order either one? The 348 is also a truck motor. I better wake up cause I'm dreamin'.....................................................Hemmit

Re: Whats under your hood?
I also like the 348s and 409s, but, as long as I'm dreaming, how about a 302
Z28 engine with the rare dealer installed cross ram? |

My neighbor has a 69 GMC 3/4 ton that he put a Cummins 4BT / Turbo 400 in and he's currently putting most of a 2007 yukon inside/beneath his 71 Suburban.

Re: Whats under your hood?
4BT, or a Duramax if you can swing it. But I am a fan of turbo diesels that get killer mileage.

Re: Whats under your hood?
Well...
The '63 had a 305E BB V-6 from the factory....Odd enough. I found a 351E out of a 67 GMC....and that's what I've got goin' on under there now. Almost done with the "quick" swap.... I guess I don't have to get a whole lot more "unique" as far as the power plant. I did modify the intake to handle a 4bbl Q-Jet....a few other mods...HEI, dual 2.5" exhaust.... BTW.... When I grow up....I'm thinkin I'd like to boost this thing....Remote mount, blow through. It just seems right.

Re: Whats under your hood?
How about a late 90's v6 3.8 ltr from the Camaro stock was about 270 horse but you can bolt small turbo from the Pontiac v6 to them should make over 300 horse. And get decent miles per gallon. My wife gets 24 miles to gallon in her 98 Camaro....

Re: Whats under your hood?
im always one to invite people to the LS powered dark side.
If you want something odd; go with a 3 rotor and 60trim.

Re: Whats under your hood?
Great links 1bad!
I love the way that 401 Nailhead looks several posts back. Awesome! I also like the idea of the big block v-6. almost bought a 67 GMC with one a few years back. I reality when it comes time to power the truck, I will go with best available option right now because yeah, I am not made of money.....but this thread is awesome

Did you have to cut up the engine bay to fit the BB?

Re: Whats under your hood?
I have put over 300 miles on it this last week. It runs extremely well and reliable. I love the fact that when its not in boost its N/A and efficient, but when you want to turn it up, its there.
It is different for sure.
