well, my plan is to buy, upper and lower ball joints, tie rods, idler and pitman arm.
hopefully that will be a good overhall of the front end parts.
then when those parts go in, so will lowering spindles, shock, springs, flip kit, notch and shackles.
id like to attempt the job, but not sure about certain parts, so ill probly pay someone for the install,to not worry when parts are on.
hate to have an accident due to my lack of knowledge.

any other parts i should replace?

well i took the arms with me today. to see if anyone would the bushings out.
man, people make it like its the worst job in the world.
well, couple tire shops, and a machine shop, and i still have control arms with bushings in them.
one guy told me hed do it, but he wants 100 bucks. to me thats a bit high, just to pull em out.
then an old timer told me, take the bolt off and drill into rubber, then knock it with a hammer an they should come out.
so i soaked em now and ill see if i can get the bolt off. dont have a socket or wrench thats the right size, so might try pipe wrench????
and go from there.

still TRYING to get the bushings out.
rather not pay 100 to get them out.
saw online, burn them out...so i tried, faied. online, saw they burn and pop out, mine would not stay lit,didnt pop out.

i was able to get the bushings out of one lower arm, screw driver and dril.

royal pain in the arse.....
any easier way???

well i got bushings out. control arms are in, bushings,tie rods,ball joints, pitman/arms, along with 5-7 kit.

still have an issue...truck wabbles,/rattles/shakes around 40 and up.
took it to 3 shops, no answers...

was happening before i did the new parts.
hoped that new parts, tires, would help. well, after kit and parts went on it actually ran good,. no vibrations etc....till 80mph.
today took truck for alignment and balance....just because i did the front end work.
so......
on the way home, truck vibrated worse then before, right around 40 ish again, then on the highway, felt like the bed would wobble off at some point.
not to mention the truck is pulling to the right.

guess ill be headed back in the morning to shop.
im also hearing noise when coming to stop, front brakes.....shop checked brakes and they told me that alls good, and that it could be cause its an old truck.....

any ideas????

Is it the front or the rear that's wobbling? Your going to have to look at all the things in the steering and suspension that are not new. Springs, steering box, rag joint, wheel bearings, etc. Something major is out of whack. Probably starts out as a slight vibration and escalates. What kind of wheels and tires are you running?

I really ain't sure, one guy said ball joint, one guy said front was good.
One guy said u joint, other guy said u joints good
One guy said balance.....been balanced 3-4 times.
Feels like the whole truck some times ??
15 in rallies. Bfg tires. All parts were on my 85 longbed. And that truck ran like a caddy

I have an idea or suggestion..... stop using this shop.

The logic that it's the way it is because it's an old truck is about as lame as it gets. I've had nothing but old trucks rebuilt similar to what you're doing & not experienced these types of issues unless something was wrong. Something being wrong doesn't have an age limitation; it can happen to cars old or new.

What about the d.shaft u-joints? Have they been inspected?

Well got truck back, they re-aligned it, gave it back and said I'm good. Got on highway 45 mph and the wobble continues.....gonna go to another....4th or 5th shop tomorrow. Not sure what to have them check. Know that there's a problem just no clue what it is.

Well its evident an alignment is not going to fix this problem. Have the shops actually driven and experienced the "wobble". Does not bode well for the mechanical skills of the techs in your neck of the woods if 4 or 5 shops can't find a problem. Either that or your taking it to the cut rate shops that only hire fresh out of high school kids like Auto Zone. Time to take it to a general repair shop and take the tech for a ride and once the wobble starts say that's what I want fixed.

Agreed.

Also, the tie-rod ends, idler arm, pitman arm, steering box, wheel bearings, motor mounts, trans mount, & U-joints should all be re-checked to ensure they were not previously over-looked & that everything is tightened to spec.

One other thing you need to start checking is your Tires.How old are they see if there is any separation in the tread.One other thing I found out in my 1972 3/4 ton was the rear leaf springs where moving and at 35--45 makes the truck really dangerous to drive.Jack up the rear end put jack stands under the frame and the bumper and let the rear end hang.

this deal needs 2 people to do

See if your rear end moves if not start it up.Put it in drive while your in the air and have a friend step on the gas peddle and see any rocking going on back there.

Remember the tail can wag the dog

if your rear end is lose or the rubbers are shot your front end can be as tight as possible but it will feel like the whole truck is lose.

Remember this is a used truck.

the word truck means is to be used as a Junk truck dump truck trash truck and so on abuse Yes it will and it has been.Never think for one minute you found a truck thas has not been abused.

Always check out everything

I have a check list of what i will replace on the truck before i drive it.

All belts and hoses are to be junked, Replace all battery cables a must a new battery would be a big improvement. Radiator get's rodded out or replaced.All brakes are inspected for leaks and wear the rear drums are turned and the front rotor are turned if the pads are new i will leave them New plug wires cap and rotor replaced.Wheel bearing token off and checked and if ok repacked and put back in.Check all brake lines.I like to replace the rear rubber brake line.Bleed all brakes until clean fluid can be seen coming out check oil if dirty Put new oil in.New air filter new oil filter.New fuel filter best off to have 2 of them on your truck.check your Trans oil best off drain it replace the filter and pan gasket check rear end gear oil if there is a leak drain rear end clean out put new gasket on and refill.Check drive shaft Lube all Zerk fittings move drive shaft up and down to feel for looseness.Front end Grease all Zerk fittings in front end makes truck ride better do this every 6 months all Zerk fittings.

That is what i do before the truck hits the black top.everything that can go wrong will go wrong in these places. Me i would Power wash the engine bay under the truck and the transmission and rear end and let it dry for 1 day and go out and start working on it.

Be sure to cover the alternator and distributor and the carburetor before you power wash the engine bay warm up the truck before you power wash it and use so degreaser I like the foam type and take a wire bush and wash the engine down and use the wire brush on all area's that you can reach to get off all hard oil grime and dirt wash the front A arms and keep it clean then you will have one nice running truck all 6 of of mine look good from under neath and under the hood
