Re: Long Tube Headers for '73-'87 LSX Swap

Well looks like I will see if the eBay/chinese stainless F-Body long tubes will work with a 4x4. I already bought them and should have time tomorrow to test fit them.

Updates to follow...

I tryed speed daddys and they hit everything. Trans, shackles, shifter linkages, frame. If you spend time to modify them a lot they may fit. Driver side fit like a glove other then exiting on the shackle untell i tryed to shift from park to any other gear. Hope yours fit better.

Re: Long Tube Headers for '73-'87 LSX Swap

Street and Performance also makes a set designed to fit 73-87 4x4 and they have a really cool 4 bolt collector. They are also pretty pricy. Dude on CK5 ordered a set so we should have a review soon on those.

Re: Long Tube Headers for '73-'87 LSX Swap

I have the Schoenfeld's and they work, but I did have to get a Lokar shift linkage because the factory setup hits the O2 sensor.

Re: Long Tube Headers for '73-'87 LSX Swap

I think I am going the start a new LSx long tube header thread just for the '73-'87 ('91) 4x4 guys since I don't care which headers fit 2wd and I doubt many other 4x4 owners to either since about the only thing 4wd and 2wd share is frame width in terms of long tube headers.

Not meaning to be rude dude, but no one cares about shorty headers in a thread TITLED: " Long Tube Headers for '73-'87 LSX Swap".

Besides, I am sure there are MANY header companies that make a shorty header that fit WITHOUT paying S&P's a**rape prices.

Re: Long Tube Headers for '73-'87 LSX Swap

has anyone ever tried the schoenfeld headers on a 4x4. I know they only say 2wd on their website, but on their website they aren't even for our years. I just ordered a set and haven't put them on yet. I wish there was some way for me to test them to see if they would fit on a 4x4.

Looks good What adapter plates did you use? Do they hang below the frame rails?

They don't hang below the frame where the collector exits, but they are visible where the frame rails rise to the suspension pickup points.

A couple points of concern for later, as I haven't run an exhaust yet: the passenger side collector exits in line with, and not too far from the trans crossmember. I'll report back when I get the truck started and visit the exhaust shop. Also, I'm running a B&M shift cable, and the exhaust runs VERY close to the cable, so I'm going to have to put in a heat shield

I'm running Swaptech adapter plates, engine mounted 1" rearward

Re: Long Tube Headers for '73-'87 LSX Swap

well, I got the ebay f-body long tubes, and they almost fit???? passenger side needed 1/4" of frame clearance on the lower lip of rail, had to bend the collector in board, and flatten out some tubes, also moved the o2 sensor to the inside so it would clear the frame SIMPLE. Now the drivers side... not even close, had to cut all the pipes off, nad to run the rear pipe straight down instead of forward where it hit the control arm, then had to bend all the pipes in an inch to clear it also. and cut all the bend out, and ran the collector straight back cause instead of into the frame. also cut all the egr stuff off

Re: Long Tube Headers for '73-'87 LSX Swap

Well I bought the Schoenfeld headers, and they seem pretty nice for $250, although they are not painted or coated. They come close on the driver's side lower control arm and frame rail but not a bad fit at all. Passenger side is clear except I have a sonnax servo that sticks out a lot more than stock that comes close to hitting.

Re: Long Tube Headers for '73-'87 LSX Swap

I know of a custom set of long tubes that will work, they are stainless. $500 + shipping.

Maybe if we get a group buy I can get them for alittle less.

Anyone else interested in a group buy?
