Re: Ryan's 72 K10 Build
Don't mean to make you jealous! I can't explain how stoked I am with the results. Are you going to paint yours yourself? Nothing more satisfying than taking the masking tape off after that two-tone!

Re: Ryan's 72 K10 Build
April 15th, got the doors sanded and buffed. Turned out great. Got the door glass and trim on and hung the doors. Actually starting to look like a truck for the first time in six months.

Re: Ryan's 72 K10 Build
Are those new aftermarket mirrors on the door? If so, what is your opinion on the quality? I am still wrestling with whether to weld up the original holes in my doors as you have done, and go with the west coast jr. mirrors, or go back with sport mirrors.

Re: Ryan's 72 K10 Build
The actual mirror heads came from LMC. The arms (brackets) are original. Bought from a member here on the board. The arms are super solid - would highly recommend tracking down some originals. The heads aren't great, but not too bad. I think I'm going to be happy with them, but the test will come once the truck gets on the road....

Re: Ryan's 72 K10 Build
Last night, I fiddled more with the wiring and finally got power! Turned over the engine for the first time since December. Talk about re-lighting the fire on a project! I'm ready to plunge ahead and get the project finished now.

Re: Ryan's 72 K10 Build
That is a awesome sound when you finally get the engine fired up after months or years of silence. Agree it does help get the adrenaline flowing.
Really like the way your truck is turning out!!!

Re: Ryan's 72 K10 Build
Been making pretty good progress lately. Got the engine to fire last night, ran ok but needs some tuning. Also got the rear window and new aftermarket grill and bumper installed. Must say, the aftermarket grill is a major let down. Fits like crap. I will get it but will probably take hours of unnecessary tinkering to get it right. Heres some pictures.

Re: Ryan's 72 K10 Build
May 12th, kinda all over the place right now. Working on the new windsheild install with trim - what a joy!! Just like everyone else says, the repop trim and gaskets just don't fit correct. Wish I had taken one board members advise and BROKE the existing windsheild in the truck then re-used both the gasket and trim. Oh well, I'll get it. Just installed a new Holley 670 Street Avenger and working out the kinks on that one. Having a small issue with the trans vacuum line clearing the carb. Anyone move this to another locatioin on the manifold? See my picture. The red arrow points to it's current location, and the green arrow is where I want to move it to. The reason for this move is the Holley says not to use a 1" spacer between the carb and manifold, and without the spacer the carb won't sit flat... Any help is much appreciated.

Re: Ryan's 72 K10 Build
May 19th, have been continuning with the progress, but the punch list keeps growing. Tried the windshield install, that's frustrating. I'm going to have a mobile glass guy come over and help me with that one. Got the hood sanded, buffed and painted underneath, tailgate put togethor, and the gas fill inside the bed. Summer is kinda getting in the way of truck time with yardwork, vacations, and kids sports so progress is slowing, but here's some recent pictures anyways....

I really like that tailgate. Are there any local vendors you're utilizing or are you ordering everything online?

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I really like that tailgate. Are there any local vendors you're utilizing or are you ordering everything online? Yesterday 11:17 AM Purchased almost all the parts from Golden State Parts in Carson, and some stuff from LMC. I try to support as much local business as possible. 67chevy1series Re: Ryan's 72 K10 Build -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- beautiful truck... love the dark forest green and white, absolutley beautiful love the steel rims to just looks awesome! subscribed! Thanks alot. Been alot of work, but it has been worth it. Can't wait to get the steelies painted with the dog dish caps back on. Currently trying to figure who makes a 33 x 10.50 x 15 tire that I like. Any suggestions?

Re: Ryan's 72 K10 Build
yeah its hard to find a tire.... i dont know about the width of your rim but bfgoodrich all terrian tires make a good looking 33 tire, my buddy has a 72 with them and it looks perfect for a 4 wheel drive... yeah tires are a pain to get for 4wd steel rims... me and my dad are having problems with our 68 4wd seems like nobody has tires for em.

Awesome! Thanks for the information! I was hoping there would be a local place for me to get parts. I always prefer to support local business. The build looks great. Hope to get mine that nice one of these days haha.

Re: Ryan's 72 K10 Build
Just keep focused. Small things at a time. Don't get overwhelmed with too many things at once. Use this board for as much information as you can stand. There are tons of VERY knowledgable guys on this board whom have probably done whatever you can think of. Probably twice! Thanks for the compliments on my truck. Ryan

Re: Ryan's 72 K10 Build
Just a small update, been all over the place with the truck. Getting close to the end seems to make the punch list grow - ALOT!!! Still working on the windsheild, going to try the precision gasket and 67-70 trim. Trying to get the timing set correctly, just replaced the rear brake shoes and drums, still need to finish color sanding the bed, and get the bedliner sprayed. This one's funny: found a major exhaust leak on the rear drivers side. Pulled the gasket, and found out that my dear old dad had the exhaust gasket lined up on the wrong hole!! I guess that's what happens when I leave him un-supervised. Put a new gasket on CORRECTLY, and no more tick-tick-tick. Anyways, just wanted to keep those who are following up to speed. Tons of small things to do, but there is a small flicker of light at the end of the tunnel....

Re: Ryan's 72 K10 Build
Nick, I tried for the all terrains and they are on some crazy 'national backorder' with no estimated time frame for delivery, so I went with the mud terrains. A little more agressive that I would have liked, but choices are very slim in the 33 x 10.50 x 15 department. I'll have to look at the slider for the brand, but it came from a local company (to me anyways) called Golden State Parts. You can look them up online. Slider seems just fine quality/function/looks wise to me.
