Re: 74 Chevy truck

Thanks guys for all the comments ,as for my plans yes it will get a matching Rally spare hung on the side for the time being .I would like to eventually put the original wheels and caps back on but two of the caps were missing but I will be keeping an eye on the parts board for a couple of them. Im going up monday after work to change the oil and filter ,belts and all rubber hoses ,air filter ,pcv vale ,etc .Then Tuesday it goes to get a new exhaust system put on .I will be in Nashville for Chevellabration (Chevelle and El Camino Show) this coming weekend so I probably wont get the truck back until the following monday after work from the muffler shop and then she will become my daily driver until my 72 comes home from its frame off .Then I will probably have to sell this one unless my 55 Bel Air is sold by then as I have no more room.

Thanks for the tip on the caps ,I only need 2 . Is he a member here ? And yes it will be hard to let this one go if I ever do .The more I play with it the more I like it. I want to put a power brake booster on it but dont yet know what will fit it.

Re: 74 Chevy truck

This truck was only a few miles from my house ,I've been watching it for about 20 years and the perfect time just presented itself. The grandson of the original owner sent me an e-mail yesterday thanking me for saving it and asking for a ride in it when its road worthy which will be soon. His great grandkids will also get a ride in it whenever they want . I know of other trucks around but at this time they are not for sale so I will just keep an eye on those as well. They are still out there ,just have to keep looking.

Re: 74 Chevy truck

Our foster boys were over here tonight and I had to pull up this post to show them the pics of my new old truck as they have not yet seen it .We had not seen the boys for 2 weeks ,they were out of state and they didnt know I had bought this truck. They like the old girl, Im going to make them truck guys yet .They love our old cars but have not been exposed to the trucks as the 72 has been away so long but they are ready to play with this one when it comes home next week.

Re: 74 Chevy truck

I took the old truck to the muffler shop for a new exhaust system yesterday and got to drive her home today .She runs and drives great considering she has been sitting so long. She still will get a tune up ,new fuel lines ,brake check up ,a good greasing and a good cleaning .Starting tomorrow morning she will be my daily driver .The sun visors had never had the clear plastic wrap taken off them all these years ,they are brand new and the seat belts appear to have never been used as they look like new .Im trying to decide if I should clean and paint the engine and engine compartment or leave it with the original patina .I had thought this truck would be sold later when my 72 comes home but I dont forsee that happening now as I really fell hard for this thing.

Re: 74 Chevy truck

I have put a matching spare wheel on the holder ,just need to get a tire mounted on it. I sold my former daily driver 96 Ford Explorer today so this one is officially my driver now. The only thing I miss is the A/C but the vent windows will do just fine and no more emissions testing which my old driver wont pass. This old truck is so much fun ,my only problem so far is the people wanting to buy it for what I have in it and it aint for sale.

Re: 74 Chevy truck

My wife and I drove the old truck to its first cruise in today and it got more interest than I expected .I havent even cleaned it up yet and it was my wifes first ride in it. A pretty good first outing for the old girl ,going to clean on it a little tomorrow.

Re: 74 Chevy truck

I was just looking through your posts. Did you ever get this 74 put together? Just curious. I have a 69 c20 that I keep around just to have an old truck. But last night a friends father offered me his 77 short stepside. Its been a daily driver for him since he bought it new in 1977. So it's in good shape. Plus it's a SoCal no rust truck.

Anyways, I don't know much about the late 70's pick ups and was wondering how yours faired out and how easy it is for obtaining parts and whatnot.

Re: 74 Chevy truck

I totally don't need another vehicle. But don't want to pass it up either. I live in L.A. now (still run 1969 GA tag on my truck) and gas and traffic suck. Was thinking I could lower stepside and make it a hotrod. It's a 77 short step with factory 454 all original one owner garage kept. And he said $0.....just $15 to tranfer to my name.

Needs wood in bed and a serious tune up. But that's it really.

Re: 74 Chevy truck

It won't be for a while before I go see it again. The truck is down in San Diego. I am going to try and get down there next weekend. Have to work this coming up weekend. I talked to my wife about it and she said she would want me to sell my 69 if I wanted to get the 77. So now I'm torn.

My 69 is a 3/4 ton long bed (farm truck look) that I have put a good bit of work into. I even have it registered in GA with 1969 GA tag on the back.

Whereas the 77 has been someones daily driver up till about 6 months ago. It needs to be freshened up a little. I would want to do some suspension work, re-slat the bed and clean up the interior. I think that 454 would be a mean ride in a short box.
