Re: Is it possible to find a solid 67-72 SWB?
69 GMC Short Fleet? Looks like a really good bed on it due to the camper. Outer rockers are easy to fix. Original paint is a good thing too. Worth looking at, looks like he's motivated to sell.

Re: Is it possible to find a solid 67-72 SWB?
Also from reading on the forum I don't know if I should also consider non-original AC cabs and just add the AC myself. Not sure if there is a clear cut answer which is less expensive... refurb an old AC or just start fresh with a Vintage or Classic air setup. I would like it to look factory though. I'm going for an original stock look except for ride height and wheels. Also, if the enterior is still a factory color that's a plus. I plan to do the exterior in a factory color if it needs a repaint. Thanks again everyone!

Re: Is it possible to find a solid 67-72 SWB?
Quite honestly -- I kinda snuck up (if that's a word) on that black truck. It was listed on CL for $5k. Here's the honest to goodness truth.
I went to look at it thinking it's worth $5k (from some grainy CL pictures) I talked to the lady that had it. She told me she had bought the truck from an older man who had two trucks. This one and a 71 Big Block Short fleet. (beautiful truck by the way. CST, medium green / white top) She had just opened a business and needed to sell this black one. .. quickly. I talked to her on and off, then saw it listed again for $4k. the next day, she text me and said if I'd come and get it she'd take $3k. At this point, I'm thinking .. Ummm .. I don't know. Scam?? I got there, looked at it and drove it. It is super strong. Brakes will stand you on the bumper. Clutch is really good .. but when I drove up in her driveway it was puking antifreeze. It was just a bad rad cap, puking out the overflow tube but I didn't tell her that. I offered $2500 cash. 100 bills. I now own it. Bill of Sale, and I'm off to TN. The only problem was she didn't have a title. The old guy she had bought the truck from provided the DMV paperwork from Georgia, she was in SC, etc. Yeah, I had to jump through some hoops. Stuff happens man. These trucks are old. Titles get lost. There was just something about this lady, a hard working individual just trying t oprovide for her family. She had other hot rods too, 34 Ford, etc. a real car nut too. I trusted her, shook hands and off I went. I had to get a giant book of paperwork from the court house, have the truck appraised, had to get the VIN run through the HotList (as the Sherrif's office called it) and it came back clean. I worked with her and the paperwork, pictures, etc. It took about 6 weeks to get through it all but I have a clean TN title in my name now. Tag / Registration, all good. More or less? If she had a title, I would have never bought this truck for $2500. I know it, .. it was a risk, absolutely. But theives and crooks will not ruin my life. A handshake from someone honest is still good to me. I trust people unless they give me a reason not to. .. just me personally. SE Tennessee boy, .. but will dish out an a** kicking if the need arise. I had lawyers on stand by and did my homework for it .. but I bought it for $2500. The extra effort basically built in some breathing room for my suspension and wheel upgrades. .. that's the truth .. I promise. My point is, I personally wouldn't allow a title issue to scare you away from a good solid truck. Just do your homework, talk to the courts and DMV. Get it checked out and if you like it .. buy it. A title is not the end all. Later.

Here are some more.
In "excellent" condition with slots. http://houston.craigslist.org/cto/2988369865.html Don't know if this one is a swb, but seller says it's in "amazing shape." Might be worth calling. http://houston.craigslist.org/cto/2999843507.html |

Re: Is it possible to find a solid 67-72 SWB?
Chris hang in there man.. wait for the right truck. Youll know when you find it. I found a really nice, unmolested 71 gmc a couple days ago but its a lwb. Clean cab, dark green. It is a Sierra and has the side trim. 2200 buys it. Old grandpa truck.

Re: Is it possible to find a solid 67-72 SWB?
Honestly the main problem with you finding a "solid" truck for $5k is all based on where you live. Houston has 2 things working against you. First off, you are going to find trucks that are either a current project OR if they are original and been sitting out in someones field they are probably rusted due to your geographical location.
Second problem is you live in Texas, (there are only a few downfalls to living in Texas and this is one of them ![]() My advice to you is to keep looking, local and far off, something will eventually show up. I would probably focus on West Texas, Central/Southern New Mexico, and Western Oklahoma. Those are the placed most likely to have what you are looking for condition wise, at a price that you might like. Once you get to Phoenix its just a few more miles to Cali where sport trucks are pretty popular as well and the value starts to rise again. Not to mention it would be a lot farther of a drive! If you go East of Tomball you will generally just find more rust. These are just my opinions and general observations, take them for what they are worth...

Re: Is it possible to find a solid 67-72 SWB?
Thanks everyone. Yeah the "race truck" thing was pretty funny. I was wondering why that one hadn't popped up in any of my CL searches. Guess I forgot to include "racing" in my search terms. Live and learn.

Also, I have widened my search to include swb steppers too. So, if anyone's got one or a lead on one let me know. Thanks.

Re: Is it possible to find a solid 67-72 SWB?
There was a 68 swb fleet for 2500 in Oklahoma but it didnt have an engine / trans. 99% rust free (as they claimed).. is putting an engine / trans in one an option for you?

Yeah. If the condition is right I'd be interested in the one without an engine or transmission.
