Re: 67 to 87 ball joints
If the morons just put the correct part number on the cast it would not happen. But for some reason they put the same part number on all three different casts...stupidest thing I have heard in a while.

Re: 67 to 87 ball joints
Hopefully someone here will have some information to help me....
Have a 68 c10 and the CPP spindles (CP4S2). I'm using 87 (JB3) crossmember from the a-arms out only. It's a light duty piece, but I'm upgrading to HD. I've got the correct wheel bearings (A5-A3). I have the PST polygraphite performance suspension rebuild kit with idle arm (FEKTPGCHE731) for 87-R10. I read a thread where the top ball joint would be fine, but the lower will have to be swapped out to a larger one since HD. In the same thread it was stated that the lower LD a-arm doesn't have the same dia. hole as the HD a-arm for the ball joint. 1. Would like to go six lug if possible and as budget friendly as possible. 2. Will be purchasing new rotor/hub and calipers. Wondering if I will run into an issue with the lower ball joint and the tie rod fitment. Anyone? Will be starting on this very soon, so appreciate ANY input! |

All 73-87 c10 1/2-ton a-arms are the same. Light duty or HD. The lower a-arm for the c20-c30 trucks have a larger lower balljoint hole.

That eliminates a great deal of stress, lolife. Thanks so much. I search and search and search and read while on break at work. That thread was from 2007 or 2009.
Any thoughts on the tie-rod issue? |

Re: 67 to 87 ball joints
Tie rods have to match the year of spindle you are using.
63-70 conversion spindles solves all the tie rod and balljoint issues.

Re: 67 to 87 ball joints
CPP cp4s2 spindle is the 63-70 conversion spindle
Your stock 68 balljoints and tie rods will be fine.

You can use the conversion sleeve. They are 11/16" RH thread- to-5/8" LH thread. That means: 73-87 outer tie rod in the inner location, and 63-70 inner tie rod connected to your spindle. Never heard of anyone trying to do that before.
