Re: Duramax/cummins conversions?
I think I'm going to lean more towards the cummins but if a duramax comes up cheap I'll buy it

Re: Duramax/cummins conversions?
Unlikely but do some junkyard hunting for an engine.

Re: Duramax/cummins conversions?
Might be easier to buy a whole Duramax truck that has been rolled and put your 82 body on it.

Re: Duramax/cummins conversions?
Like I said search junkyards, it might be a longshot but you never know.

Re: Duramax/cummins conversions?
4BT Swaps is a good site for a bunch of info-- and it's going to take a lot of info to do a diesel swap.

Re: Duramax/cummins conversions?
I would like a duramax but I'm not a master mechanic so when it came to making it work I would be at a total loss.

Re: Duramax/cummins conversions?
No they typically don't. But with good tuning they can get more mpgs out of an Lbz or any other dmax for that matter. I know firsthand as I've owned them all over the years and needed those extra mpgs.
If someone was deadset on doin an lb7 swap (def cheapest route for dmax) they could add an Airdog lift pump to help filtration and get the longest life possible out of the injectors. They're still gonna go at some point because of the faulty design but you might as well do what you can to extend that interval. I'm not arguing the dmax is a better swap over cummins, just want to make sure people reading see the right info. Posted via Mobile Device |

Re: Duramax/cummins conversions?
Exactly, this is the typical price quoted by most dealers. You can just replace the injectors on that one side instead of them all if you choose to. That's another option.
Posted via Mobile Device[/QUOTE] i have thought about that but then another one could go bad not to long after your better off to change them all. GM has replaced mine under warranty 3 times and this time they wont because it was 200,000 miles or 7 years and my truck is 10 years old.

It's just an option to do the ones on the same side and not touch the other side. You can always go back in later on the other side if you have one goin out. It just sucks there's no permanent fix for the issue in the lb7. Posted via Mobile Device Last edited by GW72C20; 07-12-2012 at 10:15 AM. |

Re: Duramax/cummins conversions?
as that is an option i would rather do them all and not have to go back in anytime soon, i have heard that industrial injections makes a 50hp injector that last longer then the stock ones but they are like 330$ each

Re: Duramax/cummins conversions?
Gotcha, I still think it's a crapchute as to whether they'll last longer or not. Plus, I don't see the point in the extra coin for bigger sticks when you have no other supporting mods. Save the $ for the next injector job, lol.
edit: using additives can help too if you don't already. |

Re: Duramax/cummins conversions?
i dont see the point in putting them in it unless they will last longer, ive read about people thats used and they say they have gotten twice the life out of them compared to stock ones? but whats there stock life spand? my first set was changed at 31k miles and my second at 50k then my 3rd at 90k. What i dont understand is why some of them outlast each other when they are the same thing? this will be my 4th set at 140k
