Re: 1991 1 Ton Crew Cab 4x4 Build

anybody know where I can get some red seatbelts? I tried LMC truck but all they have is the factory style red(burgandy). I need a bright red.

I got the truck all together, got the seats, headliner, and carpet in. Now the real work can begin - cleaning and painting the undercarriage. I'll post some pics tomorrow.

Can't wait to see the progress on this one. Nice start, but I would have kept that 60 in there at a minimum, especially when your running such large wheels. Those king pin bushings will take a beating all day over any ball joint.

Yeah I probably should have kept the 60 and rebuilt it but this truck will be babied, the Dana 44 should be OK. It will probably only be put in 4 wheel drive for the occasional 3" snow here in NC or an easy clean offroad trail. I can always put a 60 back in it if the 44 causes problems. I won't drive this truck much anyway, I have a work truck that I'm always in, so this truck will be used on the weekends to run errands around town and to pull the 4 wheelers a few times a year.

Re: 1991 1 Ton Crew Cab 4x4 Build

Here's a few pics of progress. Still gotta do the seatbelts, sunvisors, seat trim, dash, and door panels on the inside. Also gotta order a shackle flip kit to get the rear up 2.5".

Re: 1991 1 Ton Crew Cab 4x4 Build

I think I'm gonna call this truck the Craigslist Killer, because the truck was bought, lots of parts bought, and lots of deals have been made over Craigslist to make it happen. I ordered an Offroad Design shackle flip kit and got the grille installed. Thanks to the holidays, not much progress has been made. Just for comparison, here is the monster beside my 2500 Silverado work truck. The looks from people beside me at a stoplight driving the Toyoto Prius' is hilarious!

Re: 1991 1 Ton Crew Cab 4x4 Build

Yeah I thought the same thing - axles look like toothpicks lol! It has 12" lift springs with 2" blocks in the front. That was all switched over from the K5, I never would have put the blocks in. I ordered new u-bolts from ORD so that I can take the blocks out. I'm worried if I remove the blocks the tires will rub. I'm gotta take some measurements, but what I wanna do is drop the front leaf brackets down to give it the lift without the blocks, and that will help turn my pinion angle up toward the driveshaft better.

Yep KMC XD Diesels. I never would have gone this route because of the expense, but I got the wheels off Ebay, brand new still in the box for $860 for the full set of 4 + $100 shipping. The chrome 22x14's from 4wheelparts are over $500 apiece! 4wheelparts don't list the black 22x14's for some reason, maybe they have been discontinued?? I also got the tires used off Craigslist for $1500 for the set, they only had 300 miles on them, they would have been $900 apiece new!

I'm still working on the interior, sent the rest of my pieces to the uphostery shop the other day. Got my shackle flip kit in, waiting for the weather to warm up some (I can't work outside in this 20 degree weather - I'm from the southeast) so I can pull the bed and install them, then put the "new" bed back on. I put the rear blue doors on, still gotta install the front doors and hood that came off the suburban.

i assume there 35 inch those nitto grapplers for 1500 is about right what you should of paid for them I usually see new ones for 2,000.The sticker price at offroading shops are the killer prices that only idiots pay for,you never go to a shop! And the rims for 860 is preety sweet spot regular wholesale price online.Regardless thank yourself for not going to a shop don't ever go to a shop its retarded.

They are 40's, even better deal! But yeah I try not to ever pay full price for ANYTHING! It pays to do your homework before making a big purchase, I shopped for wheels and tires for 2 months.

Re: 1991 1 Ton Crew Cab 4x4 Build

you might want to check out ord's 1 inch zero rate (leaf/block) to raise the front after you remove those 2 inch blocks. i have a set, they bolt rite to the spring so they shouldn't move or slip out

Yeah I probably need to do something, it may be too low in the front without the blocks. what I think I wanna do is drop the front leaf spring mounts down 3-4" to give me some lift and turn the pinion yoke up towards the transfer case some. What's the pros/cons of this? I see it done all the time.

The trucks starting to look really nice!

If you are interested in selling the dana 60 let me know. Im not far from you in VA.

In all the parts you have also im looking for a NP205 as well if you have one that you won't be using.

Thanks,
David

Thanks! But I already sold all of my stuff. How much is a dana 60 worth? I might have sold my stuff too cheap. Mine needed bushings and the brake rotors turned. How about the trans? It still pulled good but the few times that I drove it with that trans, it seemed like it started out in 2nd gear, shifted 1 time, and didn't go into overdrive. The quote I got to rebuild the trans was $1700! and the dana needed several hundred dollars to get it right. I will probably regret not rebuilding my factory stuff but it seemed like the right thing to do at the time to get it on the road as quick and cheap as possible.

A buddy of mine told me he has a 4speed trans and NP203 combo he wants to sell out of a 72? 4x4 truck. I would love to double my 205 with a 203 one day. If you're interested the only extra 205 I have is out of a '81 K5 Blazer, but it layed outside for years before I got it and water poured out of it, it may not even be worth rebuilding. I think it has the 700R adapter on it.

Re: 1991 1 Ton Crew Cab 4x4 Build

I took the bed off today. While I have the bed off I'm gonna clean the frame up and paint it. I have another bed for it thats in better shape. Then put on my shackle flip kit. I also put the suburban doors on it and finally finished the headliner trim. I'm debating 4 linking the front and rear and running airbags? Offroad Design has a 4link kit for the front that's designed for coilover shocks but would work fine w airbags. Any thoughts?
