Re: I would like to hear your opinion about painting my truck.

I'm reasonably good with it. Lately, I have to cheat a bit by using my CorelDRAW program since my old Photoshop doesn't work on my newer computer without an upgrade I can't afford.. Over at another forum, I speculated on how a future GMC Jimmy purchase might entail replicating it (sort of) as the shortbed in the '70s/'80s TV series "The Rockford Files" - seen here. Nice to be able to see what the effect looks like on 'paper' first. (the need for a Jimmy being that I could drop an orphaned Blazer Chalet camper unit on it if I wanted...)

Re: I would like to hear your opinion about painting my truck.

On a side note my parts come in to rebuild the front end suspension and steering along with the lowering kit. I have been adding little things to my build thread in the build section. Not too much going on so far.

Re: I would like to hear your opinion about painting my truck.

That blue one looks great. On the other hand N2TRUX the black with full trim combined with big wheels and lowered on N2TRUX's ride not only looks great, but the black would work with the burgundy interior.

It's good that you are taking the time to explore different options.
I've waffled back and forth on the lower or not to lower question for years now. Love the lowered look, and it would be a lot easier to load/unload. Mine's only a half-ton, so can't carry much of a load anyway. Not crazy about doing c-notches and an axel flop tho. Of course, some people need the ground clearance or just prefer the look... Decisions, decisions!

Good attitude. Personally I don't like a visor on these trucks. Regardless of my personal opinion, let me try to offer some artistic guidance.

If you like the stock look of a two tone paint job including the trim, all the aftermarket add ons are going to kill that look. If you like the add ons, your better off going with a solid color paint for a "refined" custom look. Does that make better sense.

A perfect example would be the 73-80 truck previously posted. We know thats not a factory color combo, yet it pulls it off perfectly. Why? Because it looks stock on the outside, and has the correct two tone pattern. If they had added a roll pan, hood, and visor it would not have the same look.
I really like these combos-

If you really want to see some great two tone option take a look here- LINK. Keep in mind the 73-80 two tone breaks are not going to look the same on a 81-87, but it gives you some ideas on what colors look good together.

Let me know what colors you want, and I can mask it over a members truck so you can see what it will look like. Thats how I decided on mine. I use to be a graphic designer, still am just changed industries now I work more with AutoCAD and Solidworks. I'm sure someone can do better than this, but it works. Just let me know your top bottom and pinstripe colors.

Here is member McSwine's truck with color changes. His is origionaly blue and gray.

Re: I would like to hear your opinion about painting my truck.

I had set this photo aside for a 4wd but I think this would look good on a dropped short bed. Not sure what the colors are but I have a number to the painter who might be able to tell me if he remembers. This photos reminds me of the second truck. Just in a different paint scheme.

The blue on silver looks good to me. That's the look I mentioned in a prior post.
The 4x4 looks good too, except the way they squared off the transition at the nose.

I think I have decided to go with those colors. Just found out what the paint codes were today. Wasn't really expecting to repaint the interior of the cab in the beginning but if I paint with these colors then I am going to have to and go with either the gray or dark blue interior. Just thought I would share.
There is another thread I just started asking about the colors of the truck posted. I finally got ahold of the new owner and he gave me the codes.

Shoot that doesn't bother me. You can post it here if you want. And yes I think Duster did a pretty good job on what he posted previously. I would like to learn how to do that.

Re: I would like to hear your opinion about painting my truck.

I have the Apple with the Frost "insert" whatever you call that big white section on the side. (1984) People always think my two-tone truck is more "classic" (old) than it is.

If you are going for a Big Cowl Hood and Keeping the Visor I would go with the Solid Grey.
It looks really sharp, and a solid color will make it more "modern" aka sporty.

I won't be doing a big cowl but I have one like is on that truck. Not sure if it will be going on or not. Not sure if I am doing the same paint scheme or doing blue on top/bottom and the silver/gray in the middle. I don't like to be a copy cat but I like those colors.

This my favorite color combo EVER. Gray and black with just a stripe of sparkly red. It works well with a red interior.

RS, it almost sound like you might like the maroon/ gunmetal combo. I think it would look good. I would get on the Kirker site and look around a bit. If you find a combo or two that interests you, I 'm sure someone here could chop you a couple of pics to see what it would look like.

I agree. Even with the low cowl hood, it has an understated classy look.
You could replace the dark blue with some other color that goes with the burgundy interior and still pull off the same overall effect. Why not take rs74 up on his offer and have him do several different color combos on your truck?

Re: I would like to hear your opinion about painting my truck.

I have pretty much decided to go with indigo blue and a grayish silver. It will look like the one in the photo up above. I will probably switch the interior over to gray. Bottom photo in post 33.

I like that combo but I think it would look better as the classic two tone in the first pick in post 33. jmo Also check out (don't stone me) 2013 Ford deep impact blue for the primary color. I worked on one the other day and the rear band reminded me of our tailgate band. The color looks good in the shade and awesome in the light. Also check out Corvette Cyber gray for the secondary color. They would look good together. Just a suggestion. Here's a few pics of the blue (not my pics borrowed).
