You would need some form of obd2 connection. Scanner. Or cheap Bluetooth dongle.

Re: Need 1/8" Pipe thread temp sender compatible with stock gauge

Hey guys that's where my gage reads also. On my scanner the ect reads 197/198. Thats the original sender on the end. This is my funky setup from street and performance. Never liked it from day one, the threaded piece that screws into the head is real thin and when I was screwing it in thought I was going to snap it. If this thing gets hit accidently on the head i could see it breaking off. Think ill change it out to the one on this thread

I accidentally broke mine when it was installed. Good thing I was able to remove the piece with the threads.

Your lucky that piece is a real piece! That's why I'm going to change it out. Almost afraid to change it out though afraid it might break.

Dan, Are you using stock truck exhaust manifolds?

Is that Trail Blazer SS? Can you post a pic of the manifolds? I am gathering pics to make a engine swap thread. I am using truck manifolds, but they have a few issues, so I am looking for inexpensive alternatives

This is what I'm using fit tight against block and don't make any crazy bends when they dump out the bottom. Also ceramic coated inside out.

"I just tapped the passenger sides head to fit my autometers slightly larger sender size."

Kurt, Can you post a pic of your temp gauge at normal operating temp with the factory 67-72 sender in the 5.3? If so, we can compare it to the normal temp needle position on mine with the autometer sender.
Thanks

I am running a 4 core 1972 GM radiator with the factory shroud and the mechanical fan that came on the 2003 5.3

I have a genIV 6.0L and AutoMeter gauges. I'm not using much that "was" factory. Here's the only pic I have of my "auto meter sender" and location.
Between water heater hoses, just above header pipe. Notice "blue" connector.

my temp gauge stays at 180 or just left of...which is almost straight up.

Good info, Chuck. I just bought both adapters off of ebay for $27 shipped to the house. Much more easier then having to drill.

I can vouch that these adapters work for a 1979 silverado water temp gage.

Re: Need 1/8" Pipe thread temp sender compatible with stock gauge

Looking to update this thread with new info- Anyone using the autometer sender and factory gauge that has access to diagnostic equipment to post the actual temp (degree #) that corresponds with the gauge? (see where mine runs normally in post #42) It would be nice to have a number that corresponds with this sender and factory gauge.

I am still a few months from testing with my Inferred, but I think this is the combo that I am going to use on my 78.

One more item to check off the to do list!

Did I miss the ebay site for those parts to use the stock sender from my 350?
