Re: What do i need?
well Ive painted in a shop before and grew up in my brothers body shop and can give you a "list" if you want but keep in mind IF YOU DONT HAVE A COMPRESSOR for bodywork dont try to do it at home seriously it will just make it hard even for a pro but a nightmare for a novice on his 1st time out, and this includes a good water/oil separator as well. im sure plenty of will tell you they did a show quality paint job on a 5 gallon compressor in their driveway and maybe they did but i doubt youll have the same results.
List (just a starting point) 1.-sanding blocks, all kinds and not nes store bought ones (if you got a block of wood that fits a weird area, great use it) 2.-3 paint guns (one for clear, one for base, and a detail gun) from HF is fine and really you will do yourself a big favor there by buying their "disposable cups" they come in a 10 packs and will save ATON of cleanup time 3.- 80,120,220,400 grit sandpapers to start (the more you sand, the better it will look basically 90% of your time will be sanding) 4.- "good quality" masking tapes and papers (NOT newspaper, it bleeds and contaminates your paint 5.- mixing cups (get'em at a paint supply store believe it or not their cheaper there) 6.- EXTRA PAINT and practice on scrap panels because you WILL mess up better to do it there 7. USE 2 STAGE "base coat/clear coat" style paint, its alot more forgiving (in my opinion) 8. MOST IMPORTANT....GET A GOOD BREATHING MASK TO PAINT WITH seriously the truck can be fixed you cant, ive seen 1st hand what these chemicals can do to a person and its not pretty 9. Go to a local "auto" paint supply shop and get some advice about paints (self etching primers etc. i personally like to use 3k primer now instead of 2k but everybodys different) you can feel free to pm me anytime or call me if you want and i can give you whatever advice i can |
