Re: Transmission Nightmare 1961
Music,
Mine is the offset. I looked at yours and mine is definately not the same. It goes over the center of the tail shaft more and it appears more towards the front of the tranny. It's exactly like the one at the top of the Classic Truck article. I did buy this 440 today, $425 incl shipping to Fresno. I ll have my trans guy go through it when it gets here even though the guy i bought it from said it all lookec and worked fine. Do you still have some parts? I d like to talk some business if you do. On the bright side, no new motor stanchions and no moving brake lines or clutch. Posted via Mobile Device

So others may be aware, here is the bracket that I believe you are describing.....and below is the second version for comparison. This style of Hurst Shifters is/are unique to this transmission it appears; and only the bracket and rods are different. That's why Classic Trucks suggested that one get a complete unit. I did buy my shifter separately though.

Re: Transmission Nightmare 1961
we ran a the Gm 833 OD in our 62 for YEARS with the side mount bellhousing, all we did was turn down the bearing retainer to fit the bellhousing. worked Just fine. and it was the aluminum one.
