Re: craigslist truck with hickey hood

Not according to their sales brochure... It's listed as a Low Profile fiberglass hood in their Blazer accessory brochure..

Can you scan the sales brochure that shows it listed for 69-72 Blazers?

Re: craigslist truck with hickey hood

The only Hickey brochures I've seen showing those drop hoods were 73-up. The 72-back ones I've seen with everything they make on the truck did not include the hood.

Re: craigslist truck with hickey hood

The Craigslist ad had already been pulled before I saw this thread. Can someone post a picture? I have no idea what these hoods are and didn't turn up anything for this year on google.

Thanks in advance

Re: craigslist truck with hickey hood

specialK, i think your right.!..i guess i had a bad picture...or too much hefewiezen!! Ya..

rkn463, i don't have the pic anymore and cant pull it up on Cl. sorry. Just search this site for Hickey...

Iron Hauler, yes it is a hickey product, i am not sure if they made it, but i have two identical axle trusses. Page 10 of the Hickey catalog has them, their were apparently two different part numbers. #221002 for 69 and #221003 for 70 and up...I am not sure which one i have. The Blazer i got them from had a front brush guard, axle truss, rollbar, swining spare tire carrier, side tanks, thick 8 spoke wheels 15x8s (?) and a gas tank skid plate.

Someone please post a pic. I have seen the 73-80 hoods, but never anything earlier. Even if its not a Hickey I would like to see it.

Yes, I talked to him about his '68. He was going to deliver it to seattle for me ,but then I got a deal on a complete five lug power steering/brake suspension for $350 and cancelled on the truck. I think it's a great deal for the '70, and since the guy I made the deal with hasn't come through yet, I might turn right back around. The only problem is, he's got all the pictures so mixed up between adds, that I don't know what I'm looking at. I think the '70 has roof damage and is missing a windshield. He says it's running though, so I'm sure it would be a good parts truck.

Re: craigslist truck with hickey hood

The hood that I just bought looks exactly like the one in the pic that was just posted. I believe it is the very same hood that was spotted on that rusted out feathers Blazer that was for sale on CL in the same area, as the owner said it came off a feathers Blazer. It will be arriving at my house on Monday or Tuesday next week. I will take some more detailed pictures of it and post them in this thread for people looking for more info on these hoods in the future since there isn't much info on them currently.

To correct myself, the hood was made by Eagle Ventures, not Eagle Enterprises as I had stated previously. I did pay more that $200 for the hood in case anyone was interested. The guy had it posted for $350 on CL by the time I contacted him (thanks to all of the interest he got in it from other callers ) Crating and shipping was another few bills. But in my opinion well worth it. I have been looking for one of these for about 15 years to complete my Blazer. Now I have one just in time before my Blazer goes to paint. Ugly? Perhaps to some. Functional? Up for debate. Unique vintage accessory that will set my Blazer apart? No question!

I did notice later that he had another ad up in the for sale section of a yellow truck for 2k with some of the same pics. If I had extra cash right now I would really like to just go there and take a look at what he has.

That's going to look Tuff on your Blazer! I like the way you mounted your Sidewinder winch, I may have to pick your brain about that later as I just picked up an original Hickey push bar and winch setup. Just a couple weeks ago I came across a Hickey roof rack for a Blazer that's for sale. This stuff is getting harder and harder to find.

Mine had a chrome luggage rack on it but I thought it had been scavenged off an old station wagon or something I wish I wouldn't have scrapped it now. Does anyone have a pic of the hickey rack?

Re: craigslist truck with hickey hood

I had a '72 Blazer in the erly-80s from New Mexico I wish I still had:

Grapefruit base model 350/TH350/posi 3.73 rear/bucket seats (std/no console)
Desert Dynamics & Hickey accessories:
*swing away tire/jerry can mount
*roll bar
*aux. tanks
*roof rack
*fuel tank & transfer case skid plates
*5 chrome smoothies/11-15 mud tires...white letter "Honcho"
*locking steel with upholstered top console

I think that was all

Re: craigslist truck with hickey hood

Followed the thread since posted.....Sure glad Im not the only one who is totally thrown off by the hood. Something about it looks like they took and cut the top 6 inches from the rear of a mid 70's cadillac and plastered it on the truck.
kinda sickening looking. But hey, to each their own.
If it werent for everyones taste being different, we would all be driving a plain jane black truck.

Re: craigslist truck with hickey hood

They were a product of function over style. Dropping truck hoods for better visibility has been a focus for truck builders more lately than ever. I guess these hoods were left with the original profile at the sides to help them stiff enough. From the side you can't tell it's one on these hoods. The only looks factors was just the statement they made that your truck was all the more equipped for off road.

I don't see all the gains in visibility...I mean, c'mon if your not looking more than 20 feet ahead of you, you probably shouldn't be driving a truck. Especially a 4wd...

Re: craigslist truck with hickey hood

From an off road perspective, cresting a steep grade, moving along at a crawl we all have to stretch our necks and look down our nose to see directly in front of us. It's nice to know if it drops right back off, there's a stump or a rock or a huge hole

Re: craigslist truck with hickey hood

Yeah its funky lookin' and probably doesn't offer a huge increase in visibility. But it is part of the aftermarket history of our trucks, and just plain cool. Besides, if I get tired of it, its just four bolts to swap my stock hood back on and I hang it in the rafters with my hard top until I want to rock it again.

BTW, other vintage Hickey aftermarket stuff on my Blazer includes: Rollbar, 38 gallon under truck fuel tank, 13 gallon bed mounted auxiliary fuel tank, bedside utility steps, sidewinder winch, aluminum mags, swing out tire carrier, and steering wheel.

Non-Hickey period correct stuff includes: Smash-Hit brush guard, dual GM Unity spotlights, hard top window sliders, Kelsey Hayes 9.75 x 16.5 8-lug steel rims, auxiliary battery tray and wiring harness, and York AC compressor and bracket kit converted to on-board air compressor.

Hell, if I came across a set of NOS "Feathers by Chevrolet" decals (some of the ugliest but funky graphics ever made), I would probably put those on too!
