Re: Not happy with my mechanic!

I'm building a whole truck myself.!!!Three or four hours every afternoon after working in a steel mill.!!! And I'm 57 going on 17.!!!!! Great truck most would die for,old drag racer though, just had to tear a perfectly fine truck down to the frame and start over.Do have a great shop behind the house 30 x 50 with a lift and all the goodies, make it a little better.Spent the last week blasting the cab and getting ready to prime it,and get it back on the frame.!!! here's a link to the build, and hope you get your's back soon.!!!!

Very nice! A lot of my problem is I'm getting older and my knees take a pounding working on it out in the driveway. One of these days I'll have a nice shop with a lift and that should keep me motivated.

Re: Not happy with my mechanic!

BTW I got my truck back yesterday. He handed me the bill and said sorry it took so long so I didn't charge you for the u joint install and wiring harness install. I did tell him I was getting kinda pissed about it taking so long and he reminded me about when I dropped it off that I told him "no hurry" when he said he could have it done in a couple hours. Woops my fault. We are back on good terms so all is good. Well almost good now I'm blowing tail light fuses. GRRRRRRR!!!!!!

Cheap, fast, easy. You can only have two at a time.

Well if you took a week to do a 2 hour job I wouldn't go back to you.

Re: Not happy with my mechanic!

Like he was actually working on your truck for a real week. Probably only took him a couple hours, just longer to get to it. Sounds like you'd been money ahead to do it yourself.

Looks like he was a stand up guy though, not charging any more for the extra work you added on after he quoted you just for the brakes.

Re: Not happy with my mechanic!

Those with skills...should do the work themselves or don't complain. Remember you asked to bring it for 1 job, then added more jobs and am sure he had other things he was doing first, prob guy's like you who bring "only" 1 job, takes time to do a job and all things don't always go great...so short story, do it yourself and can only complain about your own work.

If I had a nickel for every time I complained about my own work...I could pay someone else to do it

But you're right.

I would never complain about the work he does. He is the best guy in this area. Every time I have taken anything to him he has been great and had it done that day. This time I'm not sure why he took so long. He had the truck on his lift for 6 days taking up space. He gave me a deal and did good work I did get impatient and thought a call would have been nice but no biggy. It could have been worse. Like I said earlier I could have done it myself. There is nothing I can't fix, but I got burned out working in the rain on a gravel driveway. I'm just happy to be in a position that if I do get burned out on something I can take i somewhere to have it finished up so I don't sell it.

Re: Not happy with my mechanic!

Well I bet it is good to have it back, I do remember many years on the gravel, then my Dad's garage, then back to the gravel at me house, now having a garage is just sooo nice, hope you get one some day, will be a good day.

Re: Not happy with my mechanic!

I used gravel for my first 4 years of car work. We threw down an old piece of carpet and it wasn't bad at all. Just put the carpet down, drive over it, crawl under and lay down. Then fall asleep and get a sunburn on your ankles and belly fat where your shirt inconveniently rides up.

At least that was how I did it. Got some work done too between naps.

It all worked out fine in the end and that's the important thing, and Pepsi I've gotten a sunburn on my fat belly before. Now I thank god I have a shop to work in that was a long time coming cause a creeper don't roll to good in gravel and dirt. The carpet idea would be good until it got soaked like a sponge. Hey Don I still have that license plate light if your still in need of it. Boy I wish the sun would shine a little more I haven't had to water my lawn yet this year, but it sure is green out there and don't you sell that truck...Vernski

Thanx Vern. I'm taking it to my kids house in the morning and I will spend all day on it if I have to to fix the lights. His friend has one of those wiring tester things that pretty much does the work for you. I'm going to take the bumper and brackets off for powder coating and I will check the light then and let you know.
