Re: New Build 5.3 w/6L80e into a 1986
Ok, I hooked up the code reader and got 10 codes as listed:
P0036 Heater control circuit bank 1 sensor2 P0056 Heater control circuit bank 2 sensor 2 P0443 EVAP emission system purge control valve circuit P0449 EVAP emission system vent valve solenoid circuit P0452 EVAP emission system pressure sensor / switch low P0463 Fuel level sensor A circuit high P0480 Fan 2 control circuit P0481 Fan 2 control circuit P0690 ECM / PCM power relay sense circuit high U01090 Lost communication with fuel pump control module I erased all but 5 would not erase P0443, P0449, P0452, P0463, U0109 I erased again and only 2 showed but forgot to write down which ones. I attempted to start engine and it ran for a few seconds but tripped codes again and died. Ran code scan and came back with 12 codes, all the same except for P0054 H02S heater resistance bank 1 sensor 2 P0060 H02S Heater resistance bank 2 sensor 2 I deleted codes again and started, it wanted to run but codes tripped it again. Does anyone know what these codes mean?? What can I do for these???? PLEASE HELP!!! |

Re: New Build 5.3 w/6L80e into a 1986
Im thinking either the program is bad/corrupted or the ECM itself is bad.

Re: New Build 5.3 w/6L80e into a 1986
I got to look over my harness tonight and I can't find anything wrong. For the Grounds I have:
One from the battery and the harness to the passenger head ![]() One from the rear driver head ![]() and one on the block on the drivers side with two ground wires to it ![]() I got to looking at my power source. For the computer, harness, vehicle, etc. I have one wire from the battery connected to this place located on fire wall on the drivers side, could this cluster cause some of the codes? ![]() Yes I know it looks like crap! Thanks for any ideas and input. |

Re: New Build 5.3 w/6L80e into a 1986
Sounds to me it is all in your tune as well. Most of the codes posted are emissions related; the one that troubles me is that it is looking for the fuel pump module when he said he turned that off. The rear O2's will also set codes, they need to be deleted. For your application, I think I would want all of the emissions disabled. The truck is old enough to get way with it. Also, was the VATS disabled? If the tune is corrupted, that would explain the start up and dying you are experiencing.

Re: New Build 5.3 w/6L80e into a 1986
Pretty much what im thinking. Im thinking either the tune didnt "take", the tune file was messed up somehow, or the ECM is just bad.

Re: New Build 5.3 w/6L80e into a 1986
Ya, guess I will have to take the ECM back in. This pisses me off!! I know it's getting fuel because when I pulled the power to the fuel it fired for a split second then would just crank. When I hooked it back up it would fire up but then slowly die.
Jonboy: you are correct, he did state he turned the fuel pump was turned off. jstorng: I will have to relocate AC, you can do a mod to engine bay to keep original AC loacation if you want. Just google "glock fred build" |

Should there be one more ground going to the Body? I thought I read that somewhere.

Re: New Build 5.3 w/6L80e into a 1986
Ok, I ran a new power wire from battery straight to PCM and cleared up the P0690 ECM / PCM power relay sense circuit high code. So now I only have the following codes
P0036 Heater control circuit bank 1 sensor2 P0056 Heater control circuit bank 2 sensor 2 P0443 EVAP emission system purge control valve circuit P0449 EVAP emission system vent valve solenoid circuit P0452 EVAP emission system pressure sensor / switch low P0463 Fuel level sensor A circuit high P0480 Fan 2 control circuit P0481 Fan 2 control circuit U01090 Lost communication with fuel pump control module I can clear all but two of the emission ones and try to start it and it runs for a bit longer now and I can rev it some but then dies. So my next plan of attack is o go to a junk yard and get the exhaust cut off a truck where the o2's go and to also take the PCM back to the tuner and have him take the rest of the crap off there. One question, will the U0109 one make my truck quit running or the fuel pump to stop working?? Thanks ben |

Re: New Build 5.3 w/6L80e into a 1986
i would have all the evap stuff deleted. the rear 02s not working or delted will trip a code. heater control for auto heat iirc shouldnt matter. fans is for the electric fans i would add the oem fan control is a nice feature. i would think the fp code would cause issues. idk what it needs to make it work prob just a power circuit to fuel pump this would be a question to ask on ls1tech.com. also the evap controls the egr without it it will stall out have that removed or tuned so it doesnt need it.

PCM is being re-programmed and I told him to delet all unnecessary EVAP and O2 sensors. I should have it back in a few days and will let you know what happens.

Re: New Build 5.3 w/6L80e into a 1986
Well, I got my PCM back from the tuner and what do you know......it started and stayed running!! I hooked up the PCM and turned the power, hit the pedal and I could hear the throttle body flap moving so I knew something was right. I turned the ignition and started right up and kept running. SO EXCITED!!!!!
Now I just have to button it up and be done......for now!! Thanks for everyone's help! |

Re: New Build 5.3 w/6L80e into a 1986
Ok, I got the exhaust put on Friday and now the thing runs and runs good!! I can't wait to take it back to the tuner for dyno and further tuning to get the max HP and TQ out of it. So far the gas mileage seems to be good but don't have a number to give out yet, just comparing to my old setup. I will post a vid soon!

Re: New Build 5.3 w/6L80e into a 1986
Glad you got yours figured out. I'm battling what I think is a wiring problem....Mine is misfiring on the passengers side and I know it's not the injectors, coil packs or O2 sensors...

Re: New Build 5.3 w/6L80e into a 1986
Not yet, I haven't been able to drive it since I got the exhaust put on it. I knew I had a brake problem but damn!!
![]() I am going to a friends house tomorrow and going through the whole brake system and then I will feel safe driving it, locking your left front break up at 70 just by tapping on the brakes is not to fun!!! Guess the cylinder has been bad for a while!! Hopefully I will be able to post a vid this weekend! |

That's a cool ride. I'm going with either the 5.3 or maybe old school 5.7 tune port on my 87 r-10. Not sure yet but very nice job and truck you have.
