Re: Better ride for 59 Apache
Dan you stop it right now. We've all thought that when we purchased things and after awhile we learned it was much different. Allow this brother to have his growing pains.lol

Re: Better ride for 59 Apache
Guys I found a frame out of a 78-81 camaro, they are asking $400 for it. This should be a good fit '?

Re: Better ride for 59 Apache
We went to the brothers show today, man it was HOT.But lots of beautiful trucks. I noticed that most 55-59 had a welded on front IFS. I think about 80%- 90% had IFS and I think my Dad is leaning more towards a camaro IFS.
I did see this company that had a booth that was selling a weld on kit for the front and rear that will bolt on any Corvette 84-96 parts..That was interesting. |

Here is a link to their website for you. http://www.flatout-engineering.com/ The good thing is, you can do this kit for about the same price that it would cost you to do a aftermarket Mustang 2 unit and in my opinion its better. You don't have to cut your frame, there for you don't have to worry about alignment of the front sheetmetal like you would with a clip. Now nothing is wrong with a clip but its just a little more work involved. So you are trading a little more expense (doing an aftermarket kit) vs a little more work (doing a clip). I've done both and still do and you can't go wrong either way if you take your take and measure and don't rush it. |

Re: Better ride for 59 Apache
I know that location can certainly have an effect on price, but my subframe was only $150. $400 seems a bit high to me!

Re: Better ride for 59 Apache
Latest price I saw was $450, but that's SoCal and a Craigslist ad not searching in earnest for a good price at a junkyard.

Re: Better ride for 59 Apache
Sell the Apache and keep the newer one with the nice ride. Thats the cheap way to go.
In 20 more years you will kick yourself for messing up the 58 / 59, nonmessed up ones will go for 100's of thousands, they will be as rare as snowballs in a forest fire. |

Re: Better ride for 59 Apache
I think the camaro front clip is a little high priced myself, you should be able to find the whole car for about 200 more. Keep what you want and either sell or scrap the rest, both ways you put money back into your pocket. You will have to search pretty hard for that price but they are still out there sitting in some ones drive way or back yard. Everyone is loking on CL so the really good deals go quick.
In the end, do what makes you feel good, its your trucks. If it means you kill 3 to get a good one then so be it, your money do what you want with it. If you kill 3 trucks for 1 good one, then that means 20 yrs from now yours will be worth more than if they were easier to find. Maybe even worth 100 of thousands of dollars.

Re: Better ride for 59 Apache
The clip could be a little high it just depends on the overall shape it's in. If you buy a cheap one and have to completely rebuild it you can really run into some money! Don't ask me how I have experience in this.
It's to bad your so far a way I have a 76 Camaro clip with power steering box still attached and heavy duty sway bar I'd sell cheap. I know I have all the projects I need and don't need any more parts laying around. |

Ignore Dicer and do what you really want to do to your ride. The rest of us guys and gals on this site know what he is all about. He pops up every now and then to try to pour salt on all non stock guys. Anyway just keep asking your questions and we will try to help the best we can. Look at the build projects and if you see something you like ask questions. The majority of guys and gals on this site are not judgmental and will go out of their way to help. |

Re: Better ride for 59 Apache
If you can get it to western Colorado, I have a truck leaving there at the end of this week and can get it to you from there for almost nothing.

I've got $125.00 in the clip, if I can break even I'd be happy!

Re: Better ride for 59 Apache
If your going to go with a weld in IFS kit. I like the TCI mustang II I put on mine. Give Todd Walton at Walton Fabrication a call. He is a distributor for TCI. I think there running an offer now for free sway bar, flex brake lines and small block motor mounts. My budd and I did mine in a day. I had the front clip and motor already pulled out. The kit comes with great instructions. Not nearly as hard as it seems.
