Re: Best Muffler for a LSX?
Does anyone have another part number for the Borlas? The one listed doesn't work.

Re: Best Muffler for a LSX?
My opinion... Magnaflows! Definitely run an H-Pipe as well. I was running true duals with my 5.3 and after I put on the h-pipe a couple months ago it really woke things up... finally getting tuned next week

Re: Best Muffler for a LSX?
This. I'd like to know what magnaflows people are using. I'm going to run the crap exhaust I have for now but when I upgrade, I'd like to go with a magnaflow or borla.

I'm not really sure... they came with the truck so I decided to use them with the 5.3...

Re: Best Muffler for a LSX?
There is a thread on here somewhere...
I don't think there are huge differences when compared to each other. The sound is almost the same imo.

Re: Best Muffler for a LSX?
These are the magnaflows I'm running on my truck with a 6.0. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/mpe-11236 They sound pretty good. Not overly loud, no drone, just a nice sound. They still come alive under heavy acceleration.

I went with an X-pipe over an H. I just figured that exhaust sound/flow was more likely to balance being forced into a merge rather than being able to go straight OR take a 90 degree turn. |

I found that the x-pipe, for me, acted almost like true duals, seemed to lag a bit on acceleration compared to the H-Pipe. But I'm not running a huge HP motor so that's gonna have some affect as well... My 5.3 needed more back pressure

Re: Best Muffler for a LSX?
No engine needs back pressure. What you probably benefit from was more exhaust velocity. The myth that engines need back pressure is just that, a myth. What you really want is the maximum exhaust velocity with the minimum back pressure.
Too big of pipes and you lose velocity. Too small, and you create a bottleneck (backpressure). Both are bad. |

Re: Best Muffler for a LSX?
Spintechs are too "raspy" for my taste. I went with a Bassani catback on my LS2 GTO and loved it but it's too "exotic" of a sound for our trucks IMHO. It had that foreign supercar sound.
The Borlas and Magnaflows see like just the right sound.

Thanks 67-72. I think I'm going to go with the Magnaflow. I'm down to these 2: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/mpe-11256 http://www.summitracing.com/parts/mpe-12256 The only difference seems to be that the 12256 is 1" thicker thand the 11256. How do you guys think that will help/hurt sound or performance? thanks, Rob

Re: Best Muffler for a LSX?
Did you notice that the 1" thinner muffler is 1" longer? Maybe it evens out in the end and it's really up to your space constraints? Wouldn't think 1" would make a difference but I guess it depends on the car.

Yes, I saw that also. You are probably correct. I may call them tomorrow just to ask the question. Thanks!

Re: Best Muffler for a LSX?
I had the 11229 on my tbss and it sounded great with longtubes and cats. That is a 3" in/out muffler though so to get the same size you'd need the 11226. I say if you want louder get the 11226 and if you want it a little quieter get the 11256
