Re: TCI to start new R&D Project with a C10!
We've made a few more revisions but the project is coming along quickly.
There was some discussion about which c-notch design we were going to use. The round style won out almost unanimously. Mocking up the anti-sway bar and a few other items. This crossmember is going to be one beefy dewd once it is all boxed in and fully welded. Torque Arm mount, I believe this is revision #2 -J |

If you guys were closer, I'd take you for a ride. There wouldn't be much more convincing necessary

Re: TCI to start new R&D Project with a C10!
Lookin' good! Really diggin' the front set-up. Have you done any FEA on supporting the rear end with the coilovers behind the C-Notch? A while ago, I ran across a thread that discussed how C-Notching can weaken the frame's integrity. It made some pretty good points. If I run across it again, I'll share the link here. Keep up the good work!

Re: TCI to start new R&D Project with a C10!
Glad to see you guys are doing your homework! If you haven't guessed by now, I'm in engineering for my day job, and run a part time speed shop on the side. Unfortunately, that means I'm hard to impress, but you guys are definitely putting the icing on the cake with this. Keep the documentation of the development coming, awesome stuff!

No worries, it's refreshing to hear good questions during this process. We are one of the few companies that doesn't mind posting pics of the "process".
Well, good news, The craigslist link I sent to Sal & Ed about the LQ4/4L80E actually worked. I go pick it up after lunch. -J |

Looks good guys. I was into street rods in the 80's and used your stuff helping a friend build a couple of model A's. Nice to see you working on this era truck.

Re: TCI to start new R&D Project with a C10!
That's a bit higher than that combo goes for here, but it looks clean as a whistle, and complete. Awesome score. What's the plan with that? Boost!?

Re: TCI to start new R&D Project with a C10!
Have you looked at the Mast Motorsports Oil Pans?
http://www.mastmotorsports.com/view.php?id=160&c=49&s=7 Seems like I heard somewhere that they have a little more clearance than the F-Body pans. But it's always good to move the engine back like you mentioned for weight distribution. What did you come up with on the spindles? You had mentioned a few posts back that you were developing your own since the CPP MOD spindle didn't work out.... Everything is looking great BTW.!!!! |

Re: TCI to start new R&D Project with a C10!
There is also the LSA oil pan. It has a different sump shape then the F body pan. It a little bit deeper then the F body pan, but not near as deep as the truck pan.

We took a mod spindle, cut off the steering arm, machined two faces on the spindle and bolted on one of our steering arms. This will atleast get us where we need to be dimensionally for mock up. -J |

Watching this progress gives a lot of insight into what our top notch vendors go through to make quality products available for us truck guys.

Re: TCI to start new R&D Project with a C10!
Double checking the geometry
Things to note: Driver side spindle is different than Passenger. The passenger side design is our new custom set-up. It is based on a C10 pin and uses the factory lower ball joint with a heavy duty Moog upper. The steering arm is removable and helped us attain the geometry and turning radius we desired. How's this for ground clearance? We tried and accomplished keeping all suspension parts on the same plane as the bottom of the frame. -J |
